Barry Bonds call Marc Ecko the fashion designer who bought his record setting ball for over 750,000 dollars an idiot after Ecko decided that the public should decide if the ball is given Hall of Fame, brand it with an asterisk or blast it into space.
Bonds told the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper "He's stupid. He's an idiot. He spent $750,000 on the ball and that's what he's doing with it? What he's doing is stupid,"
Marc Ecko will reveal the winner of the poll on the 25th of September.

Barry Bonds is right.
This guy is a jerk.
I sure hope that purchase was tax deductible or something (it would be eligible for CGT by the way having read the article now). Made me smile though and I'm not sure I can dig out any sympathy for Bonds.

"This transaction is happening and is going to be done by the end of the day," David Kohler, president of SCP Auctions, said Monday.
Kohler called Ecko's decision "brilliant" and said he had already visited the Web site and voted to send the ball to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
I wouldn't think of it as too stupid an idea if I was making $750,000 out of it either. :D
Seriously though that Ecko guy is a moron. So he might brand the ball with an asterisk, then what? Why spend half a mil on something you're either going to blast into the solar system, draw on, or give away? I suppose it is his money but it does seem like a pointless exercise. It should go straight to the hall of fame.

the guys an idiot and tbh its pretty insulting to baseball as a whole... despite 90% of people hating bonds as he hasnt been proved wrong, it should go into baseball HoF.

The king of one line responses strikes again. Would you care to elaborate on why you think this?

What a clown this guy is. Theres only one place this ball should go too and thats the HOF.
Way to waste money. Theres plenty of people that could of done with that amount of money.

if you can afford to spend $750,000 dollars on a ball, you must be doing something right in your life. fair play to him. I like the asterix option.

I realise it may be difficult but try not to act like such a nonce, its totally up to him what he does with his OWN money, the next time YOU have $750K or more lying around, you can spend it on what you want then feel free to go and pronounce to the world on an internet message board that you have done the right thing..." End of"
Its a free market economy, last time I checked.

Mark Ecko is a clever man. This will generate more interest in his products and he will most likely make money on this. People who dislike Bonds may buy his clothes etc to "rebel" against Bonds.

Your right its terribly hard, I will to refrain myself ;)
Yep its his own money well pointed out but it doesnt take Einstein to work out that he didnt ask the bank for a loan ....
And the next time i do have 750K kicking around and i decide to spend it on a ball that has the possibility of getting sent to space, will be the day i die.
And i will let you know what i choose to do with my spare 750K on this internet message board just so you dont feel like your been left out :)

This guy is quite clearly a douchebag.
For one he's one of these fashion designer blokes which already makes him a massive douchebag. Add on what he's doing here and that just makes him the height of douchebaggery.
It belongs in Cooperstown and there's not even any debate about that. Baseball and MLB is as much to blame for the shadow that steroid abuse has cast and they should live with it, this ball belongs in Cooperstown.

Couldn't agree more. How many additional people will hear about Ecko products because of this? If only 10% then think of buying something it's a good spend of his money and heightens his profile.
Not so dumb methinks

I hate Bonds, but I have no respect for people that spend money on sports memorabilia. When I hear that a ball sells for big bucks I lose total respect for anybody that paid for it.

As much as I think it's wrong that someone can afford to spend that much money on anything is wrong (never mind a baseball) it's his money he can do what he likes with it.
At the end of the day thou the guy has done it to get publcity (or however you spell it) and has got that in buckets loads.
As to where the ball belongs if it ends up in the baseball holl of fame along with Bonds once he retires so should Pete Rose.

Ecko is just after some publicity and has spent three-quarters of a mill to do so. This is a man who went to the trouble of faking a scene of him tagging graffiti on Air Force One (Presidential Plane). Just put the ball in the HOF and be done with it. Bonds may have taken drugs but you need the raw material of talent in the first place.

Blatant publicity. You can guarantee that a $750,000 advertising campaign wouldn't have the members of NFL UK talking about him.
In reality, very few $750,000 purchases couldn't be money spent better elsewhere.

Spot on. More money than sense? Mabye. Is he stupid? Not a chance. The guy couldn't be more forward thinking.

It's a great idea for publicity. $750,000 would never buy you enough ad time for the amount of exposure he's getting.
