I just clapped eyes on this last night and apart from the new show with Eddie Izzard, the listings suggest it is little more than Bravo 3. It's early days, but what are your impressions so far?

They have some shows coming on over the upcoming months and through the new year that look interesting like:

The Sarah Connor Chronicles (New year I think)
It's always Sunny in Philadelphia (On this week)
The Unit (On next week)
The Riches (On already)

That's off the top of my head ATM, but they also have all the Star Trek series (Barring Shatners original series) which i'm happy about as I don't have Sky to watch them on.

If it's on freeview (which I assume you have?) then fair enough as not all of these shows will have been seen by non sky/virgin customers. If not, it's just another channel showing the same stuff as several others...

Is Star-Trek (in all guises) no longer available on Sky One-Do Virgin have exclusive rights?

Give the channel is supposed to be Virgin's answer to the loss of Sky one on their cable platform, and meant to rival it as a flagship entertainment channel, it is currently competing to be an equal to Sky three.

Ftn, which it replaced, was the free terrestrial outlet for programming from other Virgin (then Flextech) channels such as Living, Bravo, and Challenge. Virgin 1 so far has offered very little extra other than a rebranding.

And after all the hype about 'reclaiming red' it is not even a branding that catches the attention. The style of the logo using a large digit reminds me a little of the "Sky 1" style of the mid 90s, and a lot of the former VH-1 logo, which still forms part of the identity of VH-1 Classic.

To Sky and Virgin customers the channel is pretty much a non-entity, with the few new shows they have being easily lost on a channel, which like Sky three, offers nothing you have not already had the chance to see elsewhere.

A decent channel for digital terrestrial viewers, particularly after the loss of abc1, but nothing close to what Virgin had claimed the channel was going to be.

They are going to have to make a lot of acquisitions or decent home produced programming, not dumb ***** documentaries, if they want to be a serious competitor with the bigger established channels.

Michael.

Virgin 1 = ABC1.

Im unimpressed by it, but as I have no say in what service we get in this house, Im stuck with Virgin.

Check the last weeks listings for Ftn with the first for Virgin, it's just Ftn rebranded.

The Riches is exclusive to Virgin 1. Surprised they got it instead of Sky One or FX.

Me too, it's proved a good show so far. No doubt it may surface on suggested channels if it's popular over here and get's a 2nd series.

I watched the first 30 mins of the pilot of the riches but couldnt get into it, shame, cos i like Eddie Izzard.

Fairly bog standard channel from what I have seen so far, nothing outstanding, but it was nice to see the first couple of episodes of the Fresh Prince at the weekend, lol i grew up loving that show so it was nostalgic to see a couple of episodes.

They're showing Seinfeld from the start. They can't go wrong!
I'm looking forward to the sarah connor chronicles, but yeah, Virgin 1 looks like an amalgamation of Bravo andUKTV gold.
