Are there more vikes fans here this year or what?
Ive been here a while now and i could swear ive never seen so many different vikes fans posting before. Are their new fans or are old fans just coming out the woodworks?

Was discussing this with Lyam yesterday,.... are we becoming, for the first time in Minnesota Vikings Football.... 'fashionable'???? I have to say, the one thing i loved about loving a club from the football abyss as far as popularity was concerned was that we never had what you might call a bandwagoning brigade. But hey, if thats the price of success... i can deal with it! (keeping in mind we havent won anything yet!!)

I've got to say, i've always been a fan of American Football but never really supported a particular team. My mate (a Giants Fan) said to try out the team picker on this very website and low and behold, i'm now a passionate Viking Supporter.
Is this ok or am i not worthy of the mighty Vikes?

there was a whole thread about bandwagoning and my view was its fine to link up with a sucsessful team, the only true bandwagoners are they people who cut and run during the hard times and us vikes fans arent out of the woods yet.
feels odd to refer to the vikes as sucsessful, got the old "we're gonna choke" feeling again and i pray im wrong.

I refuse to get totally carried away, like you said, theres be FAR too many years we have fell on our face. How many times in the last 20 years have we been pre-season favorites for PO's or even the SB? I can hardly think of one year where we were at least somebodys tip for post season success. This is the first season in my memory we have been worthy of pre-season hype..... but i agree.... im still holding my breathe almost waiting for a slap on the face. I just dont think that will happen this year though.

To be fair to the new Viking fans i don't think its bandwagoning. I think the new lay out of the forum is very rookie fan friendly and has encouraged new fans to the sites and the fact the game is getting more popular over here helps. The Bills have three times as many fans since compared to last season and we are as bad as ever! (All of last year we had one Bills fan post on the Bills thread and we have 10 pages all ready this year)

My cousin was a Lions fan until the Vikings began to win last season and then he switched and now he has the audacity to take the pee out of me about the Bears. I could kill him.

We got Captain Favre at the head of our ship, friend. He's having arguably the best season of his career. If we go down, mark me-- it's gonna be from a better team, not from us choking.
We'll go down fighting hard, this year, if we go down.

I'm new to the UK, not the Vikes. I've been a Vikings fan most of my life, even though I grew up in Texas. ;) I think it's due to all the winter visitors from Minnesota my family associated with. Being Lutheran, it makes sense that I was surrounded by these folks most of the football season and no super bowl party would have been complete without someone wearing a Vikes jersey, whether they were playing or not. Not since Fran Tarkenton's day has it been this fun. Yes, I'm that old!

Trust me, i'm not one to ditch a team during the bad times. I'm still an Ipswich Town supporter despite that fact that we never have any GOOD times.
Watched the game last night against the Bears and apart from the shoddy signal it was being broadcast on, it was a pretty good display. I'm guessing from the other comments and this thread and board that the Vikings can be a bit hit and miss sometimes. ( Following my transfer to the Vikes, i'm still trying to catch up on the teams history)

Ive watched nfl since the beginning of the season, so im a complete novice. Over the season ive been back and forth teams like no tomorrow. However, yesterday was my first look at minnesota and i must say its made my mind up. What i liked about it was the versatality. The amount of different recievers used, and the variation in pass/rush. I realise it wont always be like that but you fall in love with one team at the start and you always keep that memory. Favre is by far the best i have seen so far this season. My question is, how many years does he have left at the age he is now.

Ipswich and Vikes!! Goodness, you should touch base with Lyam... and Ipswich supporting Vike!! There could only be two of you haha!!
Yes... the nearly men of the NFL. Many many seasons of promise going up in vapor by late december, the worst being '98 which after putting together one of if not the best ever seasons the Vikings ever had going 15-1 and breezing through the playoffs, we lost the championship game, at home, to the massively unfancied Falcons... In overtime... to a FG. Worst night of my NFL/Viking life. We set the Offensive record for most points in a season that year and unleashed a new rookie weapon on the NFL that season, Randy Moss who together with Randal Cunningham (an old dinosaur that came out of retirement as backup to Brad Johnson who got injured barely two weeks into the season) Cris Carter and Jake Reed (the Triple Threat) and Robert Smith a superb RB blew the league open. I was never as sure as anything else in my life that we would get to the SB that year and so ive never (including this year) again allowed myself to get that cocky again.
This year though im fighting to contain it... im sitting on my hands and buttoning my lip... but good grief, ... we do look good!

theres a thread in this section that has some youtube links to "the missing rings" wich chronicle some of the vikes attempts to gain superbowl glory. I advise any viking fan to watch them.

favre wont be with us for long, a fair amount of vikes fans spent his career hating him because he was the face of the packers, he's already tried to call it a day twice now but childress managed to tempt him out again. he's got a 2 year contract with us so if he serves it out i think that'll be it, however i get the feeling if he gets another ring this season he'll call it a day for good.

The 2 wins vs. the pack with favre at the head was too good for most Minnesotans, and for too many Vikings fans in general to continue disliking the guy. You're right about him leaving though..maybe we can get some kind of draft pick for a good QB? trade? bribe? ;)

we'll have to see what happens, i think neither sage or tavaris are the way to go. I can only hope we get a good qb in the draft and he spends a season studying under favre

Be interesting to see how much TJ has learnt off Brett. I thought he was capable of being the guy buy Favre's performances have shown that quite clearly he was never going to be up to standard to lead a Superbowl winning team. The move may have done him good though, spending every day around Brett Favre can't do any harm, especially when Favre specialises in everything that TJ doesn't.
I'd like to see him get given a fair crack at it next year (assuming Favre does call it a day), I don't think we'll have a whole host of other options available to us anyway, I wouldn't be keen on us going out on a limb like Chicago did to trade for someone.

id love for tavaris to suddenly start playing like arron rodgers. i mean the guy has had flashes of greatness in some games and then been abysmal in others. I just dont think he's the way to go anymore.
Id love him to prove me wrong though.

I think the opposite. If he wins a ring this year there is no reason for him to retire and he will suit up again. Anything short of a season deep into playoff territory will mean he will retire for good. He signed a 2 year contract and I have a suspicion he will see it out

Good Year rare?? since 1966 this team has had only 13 losing seasons, that's 30 winning seasons, that's not a bad hit rate, we have won more NFC central/north titles then the rest of the division, so good years are not to rare, second best wining record in the NFL, in the mid 80s when NFL came over here, the Vikes were not great, hence bigger fan bases for the likes of the Bears, NY Giants, NE, 49ers and so on, or is it because we are out in the cornfields? HA i'm too young to remember the 4 Super Bowl losses, of the championship games i've seem we shoudl have won 4 of the 5 since 78, that should have been 8 Super Bowl trips, getting the rub of the green now that's rare for Minnesota...... this defeat hurts, just like 98, lets just hope BF comes back, and lets goto Dallas and take Super Bowl 45 after all 4 Super Bowl losses and 5 Championship game losses that 4 and 5.......45 Destination Dallas.................... :D its our destiny going to Dallas

we have 10, 300 fans on our redskins sight. american football is becoming very popular and its good to see a british tv supporting american football and also a website.
you pick ur team on not just performance but the style of play, etc people pick team for different reasons but if your happy with supporting a chosen team then good on everybody who supports them.
