The owners and Puel must have had different ideas about the direction the club wants to go.
Fans there apparently turned on him a bit towards the end of the season. Turgid football and season kind of fizzled out its been reported. Not sure what more fans there want. They've pretty much reached their ceiling and its not enough

Tuchel who was at Dortmund is said to be the one that Southampton are after. Be an interesting appointment. At the start of the season when Madrid were (relatively) struggling he was being touted as Zidane's replacement...

Tuchel has been touted as the 'Anti - Klopp'. Apparently his Dortmund side was built on possession and structure. Bit of stats/analytics guy too.

As you say, he's been linked to some top sides in the last 12 months. Would Southampton be that appealing? Does he need a 'stepping stone' club to land a bigger job in the PL?

A Dutch International, 24, Ajax captain, an Ajax team who reached the Europe League Final. Admittedly I'm not 100% convinced he'll turn out to be a superstar, but given his background he should be more than solid. £20m+ is going to be the going rate. Sigurdsson was linked to Everton too, the talk was £30m+, I'm guessing Klaassen was Plan B.

They are spending their Lukaku and Barkley money basically. Niang who was on loan from AC Milan at Watford last season is rumoured to be next. Fearful of that one more than Klaassen, Niang has had a few off field issues.

If they get Pickford, Michael Keane and Klaassen that would be 3 solid signings.
