We can compete with the Colts, friends.

AJ is out (5 weeks, according to TexansTalk), but that means that some of the WR's lower in the depth chart will get a shot - they'll all be looking to seize the opportunity.

We're better this season across the board - and we've beaten them before!

GO TEXANS!!

Hi I'm quite new to this forum and the NFL, I started watching Sky games just before the Steelers V Seahawks Superbowl. I watched some of the matches on Sky last season and I'm starting to understand most of the rules. Before the start of this season I decided to pick a team to follow, I eventualy settled on the Texans because they are a relatively new franchise and I feel they will get better in the years to come.

I watched most of the 3rd/4th quaters of the Texans game against the Dolphins on Sky interactive. Does anyone know how many games Sky show of the Texans per season and will we get to see any live games (not interactive).

we seem to get one maybe 2 games a year. We're not popular and we have yet to have a winning season/ :(

Well done to the texans on their best ever season 8-8. Lets hope next season they have better luck with injuries and can challenge for a Play-off place.

Best season ever! 8-8 is perfectly respectable, if we can keep key players healthy for longer the playoffs are finally a realistic hope for 2008.

Now, let's draft a quality RB!

not sure if we will, and for me there are more pressing concerns in the secondary. We managed with Dayne and Walker so if Green can get fit that would be a good trimverate. Though we would have to re-sign Dayne as he's a FA.

The Texans have suffered from being in the AFC South, as the Titans have the last few years too. In most other divisions you would have qualified for the play-offs this year. Sadly, I think both the Texans and Titans are going to struggle to make the play-offs for the next year or two at least, even if they perform better than they did this year.

What does everyone think about the possibility of Warren Dunn?

What do the Texans need to do in Free Agency or the Draft to aim at that wild card slot next season?

Personally I'd like to see Dunn in to put pressure on Gren and a good WR from the draft- Desean Jackson maybe and if McFadden's stock has fallen then maybe we can grab him. I'd certainly like to see a focus on Offensive.

umm... no. our wrs are set. its prob the last position (apart from qb and mlb) we should be drafting early.. also our offense is better than our defence so its more likely we'll go D in the 1st (depends on who's there really)

we should either go OT (chris williams), CB (DRC, Jenkins), RB (Mendenhal) DE (harvey, calais) or kenny phillips

as far as dunn, if hes cheap, bring him in and see does he have anything left

Ok so this is probrably the best place i can think to ask this. (with minimal abuse :P)

Ive wondered about this for ages now, and have to ask !

Is there any chance Domanick Williams will ever play in the NFL again?

I know he had a real bad knee injury, and many people thought he might not play pro football again, and thats the main reason the Texans released him but its been buggin me for ages so i just thought id ask !

Hello all.
I've been a long-term NFL fan for about 20 years flirting with various teams and have recently come out of a long term relationship with the Raiders in the last couple of weeks to become a full-on Texans fan.
I was really pleased to see so many different names on this board registered as Texan fans as I was beginning to think myself and my mate were the only ones.
I can convert some others to the team too if I can come up with some interesting facts about the Texans - anyone got any that they would like to help me out with?

Also I have a nagging doubt that I have just made a big mistake in switching - any words of re-assurance welcome!
Cheers

Cheetvader- welcome aboad.

I must self have also just changed to the Texans from Miami.
I've found that both Houston and the 'Texan' name have a rich history in the NFL.

I hit edit to early!!!!

Check out this site, I just couldn't stop reading it- it was great to know more about the team and the history of the NFL in Houston.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_Texans

You've made the best decision ever, Houston are a great team. As Ive said elsewhere on this site. Watch Houson go from strength next year and you'll feel the pride knowing that your team are playing in one of the hardest divisions in the league.

Hey MV - good to have you on board as well. Seems the Texans are massing disaffected fans from franchises that were great in the 80s when we started watching but now suck. If you are starting anew, may as well start with the newest team in the league.

We might squeak through but we need to win 2 or 3 more games than in 07. I think our road schedule for next year looks pretty tough. Obviously the division is tough anyway, but out of division road games against the browns, green bay, minnesota and the Steelers are hard games IMHO. At least I have the Raiders game to look forward too in the Cheetvader Bowl ;D

Broncos send OL Myers to Texans
By Mike Klis
The Denver Post
Article Last Updated: 03/17/2008 03:33:03 PM MDT

The Broncos traded offensive lineman Chris Myers to the Houston Texans today in exchange for a sixth round pick.

Myers, who started 16 games for the Broncos at left guard and center, first signed a four-year, $11 million deal that included a $3 million signing bonus. The Broncos then traded Myers to the Texans in exchange for the sixth-round pick.

Myers was originally selected by the Broncos in the sixth round of the 2005 draft. Dealing Myers indicates the Broncos are satisfied center Tom Nalen and left guard Ben Hamilton will return from season-ending injuries and happy with the play last season of left guard Chris Kuper.

The Broncos now have nine picks in the upcoming draft, with one first-round selection (12th overall), one in the second round, two each in the fourth and fifth rounds, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.

What position do you think the Texans will go for their 1st rond pick? From other posts here I was thinking an RB- anyone think it'll be anything else now Brown is on board?

I've no idea and from look at the Houston Chronicle the other day, don't think anyone else apart from the FO know!

i personally garuntee we wont take a qb, rb, wr, te (or FB,K,P,LS ;D) or mlb in the first rd... after that, all bets are off- depends on which BPA is there.. most of these mocks are clueless- we wont take a spread rb.. stewarts injury should quash any remaining of those- we werent going to take him @ 18 anyway...

as of right now, my own draft board for #18 looks like this:

best options that mightn't be there
1. Derrick Harvey
2. Chris Williams
3. DRC

Others:
4. Brandon Albert
5. Talib
6. Mike Jenkins
7. Keith Rivers

i think a trade down is also a very strong possibility

What does everyone think of the draft?

My thoughts are these:

I am more upbeat than most commentators.

I think we are a C+ or B- - we didn't get it wrong and we are stronger after the draft than before, so that has to be the yardstick.

We had three needs in the draft, at OL, RB and CB, and the franchise believed that OL was the most pressing of these needs to boost the run and protect Schaub. The texans claim that Brown was the guy they really wanted on account of his speed, but I guess there is a case of "they would say that".

Because of the Schaub trade, we had no second round pick, so we really needed another pick in the 2nd or third round so we could meet all three needs.

So the decision at pick 18 was do we take one of Otah, Baker (OTs), Jones, Meadenhall, Johnson (RBs), Talib, Jenkins (CBs) plus only one of the other positions or (as it turned out) Brown plus both RB or Corner.

I heard that the OTs fell off sharply after the top 10, so we were unlikely to get a decent one in the 3rd round which is different to the RB and CB classes which were much deeper - therefore we needed to go OT in round 1.

Also, our corner need is not long-term - it is only to cover an injury to Dunta Robinson for part of / most of next season, therefore using a 1st round pick might not make sense as hopefully we are much stronger at that position when Dunta is back.

I think we were a little unlucky / admittedly outfoxed in the way that Atlanta and Carolina traded in to get Otah and Baker, because the teams holding those spots originally were unlikely to go OT (Philly and Redskins). Also Dallas traded in to get the 25th pick and took Jenkins which was a bit unlucky as we might have gone for him.

We filled one need pretty well and 2 needs quite well rather than 1 need really well and 1 need quite well.

That is not a bad outcome.

We also took a massive fat DL dude in a later round (347lbs or 25 stone).

I don't think we have gone from 8-8 to 10-6 playoff contender (which we will need to be at least in the AFC), but we should probably hold our own and stay 8-8, worst 7-9 (tough schedule next year). I think the real test will be 2009 if we can get Dunta back, keep the majority of the squad and improve with a couple of stars in free agency and the draft.

We seem oversupplied at QB now though with 4 on the books - so if the new guy looks OK in camp I can see us trading away Rosenfels.

I loved the draft this year - it totally absorbed me for weeks in advance.

What do others think?

i disagree strongly.. i think after williams and albert were gone off the board, duane was their top target. hes much more athletic than otah and baker so i dont see how that affected us at all.

i also loved our draft. its a strong draft but because of the lack of big names is under the radar (which i like). its the sort of draft that will put us over the top if things go our way

i wasn't delighted with the duane pick initially but gary and co. were just so gushing in their praise of him (noticeably moreso than either mario and amobi imo), thats ive found it very hard to not be excited with the pick.

for the 2nd straight yr, i predicted our 3rd rd pick. they lve antwuan molden the same way they loved jacoby last year.

slaton, adibi and okam are probably our most recognisable names picked and bring some nice elements to our team that we didnt have previously.

however, i wouldve loved if we had picked up a pass rush specialist like blake (although theres obviously seriously doubts about him that teams arent even chancing a 7th on him) or robertson

Of recent expansion teams, Carolina and Jacksonville both went to the playoffs in their second seasons and Cleveland went in its 4th. So if they don't make it this year they will be the slowest expansion team to have made the playoffs since.......I'll let someone else answer that.

it took the New Orleans Saints 20 years to reach the playoffs...

swing and a hit kind of. schaub proved hes getting durable by surviving and winning the titans game last yr when he took an absolute pounding. and jared 'look at my dumbass hair' allen cant go for his knees next yr

glad we re-signed dunta too even if hes not :)

Orakpo is interesting because maybe he can play as a Willie, but he will unfortunately not fall far enough. Brown seems more of a straightforward DE, so I think with the signing of Smith, he's unlikely. And he's not going to be there when the Texans pick either.

If he falls, I think the Texans go for USC's Brian Cushing.

If not, look for them to consider Vontae Davis from Illinois to address the needs in the secondary.

The other interesting choices include a tandem of receivers: Darrius Heyward-Bey and Percy Harvin (who could be the Reggie Bush type that could take some of the heat off of Slaton and the big receivers).

They usually wear the all-red when playing in primetime in front of a national TV audience. They did so two years ago against Denver in a Thursday night game and also last year when they played the Jags on Monday night. The Texans are 2-0 wearing the all-red look.

They used wear red jerseys / white pants but have retired that look and gone to the all-red look. I think they only lost one game with the red/white look.

They tend to play with the red jerseys whenever Jacksonville comes to town. The Texans have a winning record against Jacksonville so maybe that's why they wear the jerseys against them.

This season the Texans will wear the all-red twice. First time will be against the Jaguars (big surprise :D) and the second time will be on Monday night when we play the Titans.

A team is allowed to wear their alternate uniforms twice during the regular season.

Click here (http://www.houstontexans.com/gameday/2009UniformCombinations.asp) to view the uniform combinations the Texans will wear for the 2009 season.

We're playing the Cowboys next season so if the game is on in primetime then the Texans might go with the all-red look. The Texans tend to wear all-blue whenever they play the Colts at home. Not sure why, but I think they beat them once with that look and, thus, have stuck with it.

No chance of that game playing at Wembley. :(

Both Jerry Jones, owner of the Cowboys, and Bob McNair, owner of the Texans, have said they are not willing to give up a home game at their stadiums.

The only way the Texans will play overseas is if they are the visiting team.

After watching the highlights and reading the analysis of the game against the Vikings, I feel like there were alot more plus points than when we played the Saints. Although Peterson got through too easy and this still highlights our problem in stopping the run as that was the problem against the Saints.

But

Steve Slaton looked good and got a TD. Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels are still putting up numbers. Mario Williams and De Meco Ryans got sacks so there are some good plus points in this game from the Defense and Offense.

I still worry about Schaub though as he is so injury prone although he carried on after he got a knock so maybe that is an improvement in itself.

I feel better after this game for the season than watchign the Highlights against the Saints.

Not sure what everyone else thinks?

I think it will be important to get a good second QB. I dont know if the current selection are good enough. I think we should look for a QB of the future in the Draft.

Schaub is good but I think his injuries really effect the team but when he is fit he is great to watch.

I watched the entire game and thought they played better against the Vikings than against the Saints.

Slaton had trouble running the ball. I think it had more to due with the Vikings strong run defense than anything else.

The defense look good except for the first play. They are having difficulty in tackling these last couple of games. The coaches need to fix that before the start of the season.

Schaub was his usual self. I am hoping he gets the injury bug out of him during the preseason instead of waiting for the regular season. He already said that he will be ready for the Jets in week 1.

Only one more preseason game to go until it counts for real.

I expected the win and thats what we got.

I am glad Rex Grossman did well and after the last game against the Vikings where Schaub got a knock, I was worried about our back up situation but Rex Grossman looks hungry for the back up QB job and playing like that at least if Schaub does get injuried or should I say when at least we have someone who looks half decent and can compete with Dan Orlovsky. This can only benfit the team.

Now for the Jets and the Regular Season. Cant waite.:D

Schaub looked in good form and connected well with AJ. That one handed catch for the TD was awesome. We did poorly against the run as usual and they need to improve but If we can keep on battling like that each game will be great to watch. That had to be game of the week.

Couldn't stop the run again. Another big play, this time by MJD. Jax just had their way the whole game.

You can't fumble the ball at the goalline. All the running back needed to do was hold onto the ball. Even if he didn't get into the endzone it would have been third down. Two more chances to make a touchdown.

0-2 at home so far. Not good. Next week is a must win otherwise Kubiak will be on the hot seat.

I agree with everything you have said Battle Red.

I was gutted. Before the game I thought we would have trouble stopping Maurice Jones Drew but I thought we had enough to still win.

We have to work on stopping the run.

After they fumbled the ball I thought heres are chance we can still tie the game but when we fumbled on the 1 yard line you couldn't have seen than coming. You had to laugh I suppose.

Your right we have to win next week. I feel gutted for the home fans. They have paid good money and not seen Texans win at home pre-season or in regular season so far. Seems away games are where are strenght lies.

If there ever was a must-win game in week 4 this is it. The Texans cannot afford to go 1-3 and 0-3 at home. It doesn't get easier after this game since four out of the next five games are on the road.

The Raiders are a bad team and the game shouldn't be close. All the Texans really need to do is avoid turning the ball over. If they limit the number of opportunities for the Raiders I don't see how they can score enough points to defeat the Texans. The Texans offense has enough firepower to put up big points and I don't think the Raiders can match.

I am sure we will win this but I do remember last Season, I think it was the second to last game and the Raiders beat us. I could not believe that game as we were favourites plus we were finishing strongly aswell. They mam marked Andre Johnson out of the game on that day.

While I think we can put up a good score and win I would still be a bit careful as they could surprise us, I am sure it will be Ok though as we have a good track record against them, plus I would like to see some payback for last Season.

Yes, I agree.

The game last season was strange. The weather was bad and it felt like the game was over before it began. The Texans weren't in sync and just had a bad performance overall.

I am not expecting similar results this game. Even if the Raiders take away Andre Johnson they have enough weapons on offense to score lots of points. All the Texans need to do is play the way they are capable of playing and they will come out with a victory.

Although the Raiders are not the best team I thought that was a great perfromance by the Texans and in particular it was good to see Steve Slaton get 2 TD's. That will be good for his confidence.

Yes! I really liked the safety right before the kickoff return. Cushing did a great job tackling the Raiders RB in the endzone. Credit goes to Antoino Smith and Okoye for pushing back the Oakland O-line.

The Texans did what they were supposed to do. The Raiders are an awful team and Houston took care of business. A loss to the Raiders would have meant season over.

I am not sure what to say about Sundays game. It was both good and bad.

Going behind 21 - 0. I couldn't believe that. But the way the Texans played in the second half was excellent. They were on the rampage. I thought we would tie the game at the end. How the hell did Arizona stop us on the 1 yard line plus when Schaib through to tie the game at 21 - 28 and we cought the ball in the end zone, one of the receivers feet was just outside how unlucky was that.

After all that though I think we are improving and Arizona are a good team we took them all the way. Andre Johnson looked class again.

Bengals will be a tough game, they are getting results and fighting hard for every Yard. They have a never say die attitude this season. You got to respect that. Texans have got to stop Cedric Benson on the run.

I think we can win this with the Offense we have but it will be close. You got to love watching that Texans Offense.

Yes, I tried it over the weekend. I used the three different types of team pickers several times, and each time it would give me an NFC team. Not once did it give me an AFC team.

I wonder what the criteria is for it to select the Texans as your team choice.

I think the key to this game is for the Texans to get out to an early lead. The 49ers are a run first team so if the Texans can get something like a 14-point lead then the 49ers will have to alter their game plan.

The Texans have been up and down all season so I am hoping they have turned the corner and will play more consistently. They need to play well and take advantage of the home crowd and come out with a win.

The Texans hit the road again this week by going to Buffalo. I have a feeling this game won't be decided until the final minutes. Buffalo's run defense is worst in the NFL so I expect the Texans to give them a healthy dose of Steve Slaton. Andre Johnson appears likely that he will play on Sunday.

Besides running the ball a lot, I think the Texans will continue to throw to Owen Daniels. Limit the turnovers and the Texans should come out with a victory.

TexansTaylor
01.11.2009, 09:23 PM
Your right there. We definately needed that win heading into the game next week against the Colts.

Chating to the Bills fans on the Texans vs Bills thread I think they thought they would win this one. I thought it would be close but we stormed it in the end. Thats 3 wins in a row I think:D

I cant believe Slaton got taken off after 1 Yard. He is becoming a bit erratic. Ryan Moats on the other hand was amazing with 3 TD's. Perhaps he will be the new RB for the next game against Colts.

The Bills fans may have thought they could win but (and I know they are buts) if the Texans hadn't had 3 early turnovers and struggled in the red zone it would have been a blowout... the colts are a different proposition though.

Yes that is me. :D

I am currently 6th overall on the Fantasy Football. I missed my moment of fame unfortuantely. I presume they showed the list and my Team name was mentioned?

I did not do too well this weak though as I had Steve Slaton and Owen Daniels in my team and both went off in the first half.

I'll try and win it for all the Texans fans

Good win by the Texans. After a sloppy first half they came out and dominated the second half. I think the turning point was Buffalo scoring only 7 points off of the Texans 3 turnovers. They were able to come out after halftime and take control of the game.

My enthusiasm for the win is a bit subdued because of Owen Daniels. Early reports say he is lost for the year with a knee injury. He will get it looked at on Monday but it doesn't look good for him playing again this season.

I will be gutted if Owen Daniels is out for the Season. He is quality. He has been one of the best parts of the Offense. We could really do with him against the Colts on Sunday.

Houston Chronicle says he is out for the season.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/6698814.html

Owen Daniels is a massive loss to both this team and my fantasy side (also 5-3 in an ESPN league).
Didn't we draft a heap of tight ends in the draft this year (and were criticised by some for it?). If we kept them then at least we have some depth at the position even if it is a step down in quality.

That is bad news for us. He was a good source for TD's and a go to guy for Schaub. Could not have happened at a worse time with the Colts coming up.

Steve Slaton is an interesting one aswell. He might well be out after being dropped on Sunday. The new RB Moat looks interesting.

I read today on NFL.com that Texans created history on Sunday

"Ryan Moats took control, becoming the first player in Texans franchise history to score three touchdowns in one game in a 31-10 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday".

I did not realise that. Thats cool a bit of history in the making there.:D

Personally I think Slaton still has a role in the offence, but Moatsey makes a nice tandem alongside Steve.
We need to work out a way to get Slaton into space to use his elusiveness, eg. toss plays, counters etc. He is not a consistent between the tackles runner in my opinion.

Am planning a big TV night on sunday. Thinking a bit of tex mex food and some coors lite to build the atmosphere along with wearing pretty much every piece of texans merchandise I own. We were tipped as the underdog bet of the week by Bill Simmons this week on his ESPN podcast. Not sure if this is a good thing or not really.

Look for a balanced attack of running and passing the ball. I think Kevin Walter and David Anderson will step up in place of Owen Daniels.

The defense needs to play well in order for the Texans to win the game. Pressure Manning into throwing the ball early and maybe they will get a turnover or two.

Should be a good game.

I dont have Gamepass. I have heard mixed reviews about it. I have ESPN and Sky Sports which I like although it is expensive but worth it.

I watch the highlights for every Texans game on NFL.com on Sundays as the games are being played. Any Touchdown is shown just after it happens on any game so that it cool and it is free.

I always watch the NFL game at 6pm on Sky Sports and sometimes the 9pm game.

I might try Gamepass next Season though.

Hi everyone, is there a Texans fan club on here or what? I dont know any other UK Texans fans, think we must have the smallest fan base in this country, i went to the international game the other week and loved watching NFL live, wish next year the Texans come over, if i had the money i would go over to US and watch games.

I hope we make the play-offs this year but i fear we will fall 8-8 again or worse after such a good start.

Hi Texans_Martin, Welcome to the Texans Thread, good to see another Texans fan.

Your right we are one of the smallest fan clubs on this site. I suppose as the newest team to the NFL we will have less support but that is also cool as we are move exclusive and still have time to grow.

Not enough fans yet for a fan club. Right here is the best place to talk about the Texans.

Why do you think the Texans will finish 8-8? Lots of winnable game after the bye. I don't know if they will make the playoffs but 10-6 is an achievable record. Fingers crossed it will be 11-5. That should be enough for a playoff berth. :)

I can't believe that game.

It was a great game to be fair even though I hated loosing to are rivals. it sure was a game of 2 halves once again by the Texans. We really went for it in the second half. Our Defense was much better and Schaub got the offense going.

That kick at the end what are the chances. He gets a 56 yarder in the 1st and then missed a shorter distance which would have tied the game.

Am gutted but proud that we took them so close. The Colts seem to have a bit of luck aswell at the moment.

I hope we can bounce back against the Titans as after that game the Colts are in Houston and I want some sweet revenge.

Once again the Texans are not able to put 60 minutes together. It's so strange that they can play bad one half and very good another half. This team will be scary good if they ever play a whole game well.

I thought what cost them the game was too many penalties. Can't afford to give up 100+ yards on penalties, especially against the Colts.

I hope they get some rest during the bye week and come back fresh for the push for the playoffs.

Go Texans!

themightycheets
09.11.2009, 09:10 AM
Completely agree - it was the silly stuff that cost us. Far too many penalties, Schaub's throw into triple coverage on our first possession and letting the clock wind down to the 2 minute warning at the end of the first half rather than making a play which let the colts challenge the Moats "fumble" and gave them the ball back.

However, overall pleased with the performance as we dominated them for periods of the game and our defense held them to 1 TD. If we can rest up in the bye and eliminate some stupid errors then we can have a strong end to the season.

Morning All,

Thouroughly enjoyed this game, Agree the Texans gave up too much yardage in penaltys which showed the texans never really seemed to settle defensively in the 1st half. Nice to see Mario getting another sack in a season where he's been quiet (well from what I know of his Reputation). Unlucky in the end but glad it was a close game, after the dodgy start wasn't sure if we'd get it together but that field goal at the end of the half turned the tide.

Think I've finally chosen my team, Loving watching the Texans and with a bit of luck will be following them through the playoffs. Love the explosive offense that the Texans are renowned for. Probably be in this thread a bit more from now on,

The Texans get to showcase their talent on Monday Night Football against the evil Titans.

The Titans are on a roll right now winning three straight. The Texans should be fresher since they are coming off their bye. They need to take advantage of the fresh legs and use all of their offensive weapons.

Titans have won 3 in a row and will be looing for that to continue. They have found their game now and Chris Johnson is playing well. We have to stop the running game somehow. The Texans defense it certaily alot better as the season has gone on.

With the bye week and the rested players I think the Texans will play well.

Yes, I agree. They seem to lose the games right at the end. Either a fumble at the goal line or like the last two games a missed field goal.

Playoff chances are slim right now. I won't give up but it's not looking good.

Fantastic news that we are on TV again - 3rd time in a season and would have been 4 if someone had been showing the MNF games. Mrs Mightycheets won't be very happy.
I think we are going to need to win all of our remaining games to be sure of a play off spot, but we might make well it with 10 wins.
I would see the Steelers and Jags as our biggest rivals. I think the Dolphins, Jets, Broncos and Ravens are very inconsistent and I would find it difficult for them to get to 10 wins given their recent form.

Well I can't believe that game. Talk about game of 2 halves.

We were awesome in the first half and then the colts got 4 touchdowns in the second half. They were always going to comeback but I thought we would keep scoring aswell.

I thought the penalties against us were sometimes a bit harsh. That 40 yard penalty for pass interference should not have been called. He was not even near to catching it. The Colts seem to get all the luck aswell.

I suppose I have to hand it to the Colts though. They never give up and just keep going. Some teams would have lost their composure.

We now have to win all of our remaining games to stand a chance of the playoffs. One things for sure we will give it a go and have the players to do it. I think we just need to kill teams off when we take the lead.

We have to win at the Jaguars and I can't believe I am going to say it after loosing to the Colts but we need them to beat the Titans.

I can't believe I watched us melt down that much. The first half we looked incredible and that we couldn't put a foot wrong. Second half we were woeful and also incredibly unlucky (agree with you Texans Taylor that the 40yard interference call was rubbish).
I am beginning to doubt Kubiack as the same things (silly throws and penalties) did for us again this week, although in credit to him he has taught Slats not to fumble.
If we win out we may sneak in the playoff picture, but I think we might be done for this year. Even so, some signs of progress as we were in the hunt until 29 November (when has thatever happened?).
Watched the game with a texans supporting mate in all our gear and taught my 2 year old son to say "First Down" so not an entirely wasted evening.
I can't believe we are 5-6 - we should have a winning record by a couple of games the talent we have and the way we can play.

That was a great game. Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub were on fire.

Great perfromance by the Texans.

We have to take advantage of the match up in week 15. We play the Rams and are clear favourites for this. The Titans and Jaguars both have tough match ups. The division could look even better after week 15.

It helps playing a bad team. Once the Texans got a big lead I knew they would win. Seattle doesn't have enough weapons to come back from a 24 point deficit.

The Texans got the Rams this week. As long as they don't turn the ball over or commit very many penalties it should be another victory for the Texans. They cannot afford to come out flat. Get a lead early and remove any hope from the Rams that they can win the game.

Agree with you there Battle Red. Seattle don't have enough fire power. They were out of it by half time. I can see a similar game against the Rams.

I think Miami in week 16 could be a tricky one.

We have to win this game. It was always going to be important.

If we win we go 9 - 7 and get our best record. We also have a chance of making the payoffs for the first time aswell. It was great to see most of ghe other wild card contenders loose. I can't believe the Jets beat the Colts.

Its going to be tough to win against the Patriots. I can see them resting a few players and we could well win but I think a few other games may go against us to reach the playoffs but you never know. Still its good to be in it for the last game.

It's hard to believe that Schaub had such a stellar year and was in serious contention for the Pro Bowl after that opening day shocker against the Jets. Seriously, everyone was calling for his head after that game.

just wondering what do you think your chances of Kubiak getting fired?

also who is your DC as i cant get the Texans defense, you look at the parts and it should be better.

Mario Williams
DeMeco Ryans

are all pro bowlers.

Dunta Robinson is a good if not great corner. and Okoye was a top 10 pick.

I think Kubiak will be fired if we land at 8-8 again today, he might stay on if we have our first winning season.

Personally I would like to see him go, I think this season he has made some dodgy decisions at crucial times. So I would like to see someone fresh come in and take some risks because after all the quality in the side is there.

Good win for the Texans. They beat the Patriots with them trying. Not enough for the playoffs, though.

Bob McNair said after the game that Gary Kubiak will return as head coach next season. I am not very upset about that. Kubiak didn't miss the field goals or fumble the ball. My only complaint about Kubiak is that sometimes the team doesn't play a full 60 minutes of football. That's on the head coach when the team plays flat. The Texans are a superior team when there is a sense of urgency. We saw it a number of times this season -- down 21 at Arizona they came back and tied, the last four games of the season when they were must wins. I wish they would play with that sense of urgency all the time. They could easily be 12-4 if they did that.

I'm happy they were able to get a winning record. Matt Schaub lead the league in passing yards and Andre Johnson lead the league in receiving yards. Keep those two and the Texans can do some damage in the next few years.

Gutted we did not make the play offs. I knew the Broncos would loose but I was nervous about the Bengals v Jets game.

We have had a great season though. Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels, Brian Cushing have all had a great Season. I think Brown let us down a bit at key moments so I would like to see a new Kicker for next Year but I dont think that will happen.

Kubiak has done well and I am glad he has got us to 9-7. He deserves it. I still think it is time for a new head Coach to take us to the next level but Kubiak is OK and if he is Coach for Next Season we can still progress further on 9-7.

Well Done Texans. Really enjoyed this Season. Love being a Texan.:D

I went to sleep after the KC game so excited and set an alarm to check the jets score to see if I should watch our history at 3am. So disappointed we didn't make it, but the team have no-one to blame but themselves for some very silly losses from strong positions. Shanahan looks like he is off to work for his Dad probably in Washington, which means a new offensive co-ordinator.

I don't fancy our 2010 schedule much though. Looks much harder than this years.

Home: Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Kansas City, San Diego, Dallas, N.Y. Giants, Baltimore
Away: Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Denver, Oakland, Philadelphia, Washington, N.Y. Jets

I think we might draft a kicker to put some pressure on.

Early rumour mill is that the Texans might be in a position to get 10 sack monster Aaron Schobel in in the off season. No reliable links but the word is he is either going to quit football or wants to move to Texas to be with his family. Despite having Connor Barwin, super Mario and Antonio Smith having a guy coming off a boarder line pro bowl year in the rotation would make your defence very interesting next year

No doubt he had his best years as a Jet. He might be angry with the club for not protecting him for the expansion draft. I don't know for sure, it's just a guess.

Glenn mentioned in his press conference that he would like to be part of the Texans front office at some point in the future. Maybe that's a reason he's retiring a Texan. Better opportunity in Houston to stay attached to the game than anywhere else.

Here's a story from the Texans on Glenn's retirement from the game:

I think there's a video of his press conference on the Texans website as well.

Kareem Jackson agreed to a five-year deal with the Texans. All the draft picks are now under contract.

Training camp is now underway. Due to paperwork Jackson isn't on the field but should be shortly.

Howdy Texans fans. Just to let you know that although I'm a Vikings fan til I die, I've been impressed with what I've seen from your boys the last few seasons, and as we have to meet someone if we get to the Superbowl, I'm hoping it's you guys!

Definitely have you down for a first ever playoff spot this year, and then who knows?

Will follow the Texans with interest this season. Good luck!
