Anyone Thinking of Heading Over?

Now the schedule has been released, has anyone pencilled in any potential trips?

I'm hoping to go back for a trip and I've got 2 potential ones to think about:

Trip 1- Week 5 at Miami, Week 6 v Packers
Trip 2- Week 12 v Jets, Week 13 v Steelers (Thanksgiving)

Two potentially great trips- Trip 1 gives me some sunshine and my first Ravens road game, whereas trip 2 gives me The Steelers, and Thanksgiving. I was over at Thanksgiving in 2011 and it was awesome, getting invited to a family dinner before the 49ers game by the group I was tailgating with the prior Sunday! The big problem is in Trip 2 there's not as much scope for seeing other cities as I've been to NYC and Washington.

Im definately heading over at some point. Just trying to work out when would be best to go. May go during the 3 game home stretch and catch 2 games but will depend on Finances...

Mikey was that Tim who invited you? Tailgated with him and his people before the Browns game last year. Top man for inviting us.

Heading over for the Steelers game also. Can't wait to get back over.

It was. Genuinely could not have been made more welcome. The man's a legend, and look forward to seeing him, Ricky and co next season!

It's looking more likely that At Miami/Baltimore v Green Bay is going to be my trip as my mate wants to go Miami (well somewhere with some sun!). Last time I travelled on my own and it was good, but kinda want a mate to come along with me this time! Even if travelling alone had it's benefits when I met some girls in Mother's Bar in Fed Hill after Bengals game haha!

Yeah same here. They were brilliant towards us and greeted us like old friends. Going to bring a few things over to say thanks for last time. Turned up empty handed last time :(

Got a few great photos after we were all painted up with the war paint. Tim spoke about you but didn't realise you posted on here, small world. Even smaller group of Ravens in the UK.

One thing we didn't really do was go out at night in Bal for a proper night out. Would have been pretty good but the mrs wasn't well so was just happy that she went to the Baseball and football.

For flights it's worth giving Trailfinders a call, especially if you're looking to see other cities as they will be able to get you a good deal if you fly in one airport and out another. If you're not on the ravens24x7 forum, it's worth getting on it, as that's how I got in touch with some locals who invited me to tailgate with them at both games. They are also all great for recommending places to stay, places to visit etc.

Hotel wise, there's plenty to choose from around the harbour, although not that cheap. I stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites one block off the harbour. Was very nice but about £70 a night which is a fair amount, however I treated myself as was in hostels in NY and DC! You'll probably be able to find somewhere cheaper.

I know travelling alone can be daunting, but I can't imagine anywhere in the world more suited to it as the people are so friendly. The bar culture also lends itself to people on their own as you can sit at any bar and strike up conversation with anyone. In NY I practically became a local in one place after 3 days! Sit at the bar on your own in a pub over here if you're not a local and you get funny looks!

What game/s you thinking of going over for?

To be honest, I may actually be over for these 2 games- My mate is balking at the cost of a trip over, and the Thanksgiving trip would be more attractive if I'm travelling alone!

How was it for you heading over yourself last time? Have you been to Washington before if so how was it for getting about? Want to go through but part of me thinks I could just sit in a bar in Baltimore and save myself the hassle lol. Think it would be a quality game to see though.

If you are heading over for thanksgiving you want to meet for a beer or 2? Just think it would be funny if we were both over at the same time as Tim spoke about you heaps asking if I knew you etc lol. The Internet making the world a smaller place.

King Chong 13.05.2013 01:29 PM

Hope you don't mind me asking, but roughly how much is the trip costing you?

If I was going to go, it would be by myself, as no girlfriend/wife or friends who are into the NFL like me

I assume going over whilst its Thanksgiving is more expensive

There is a problem with the forum - cuts off posts after you type the pound symbol. Try posting '300GBP' or '300 pounds' instead and it will be fine.

longsnapper 14.05.2013 09:02 AM

Cheers Vincent, that wasn't annoying at all, couldn't see what I was doing wrong lol.

Heading over by myself was fine, although I spent a month or so in Australia travelling on my own after a mate went home. To be honest, as places to travel alone go, America is probably the best. You can sit at the bar in any bar and instantly strike up conversation with anyone. In NYC, I went to a bar I liked each evening as it was a Gators bar which had loads of games on, and within the 3 days I was there I was getting 'Regulars' priveliges! This was the bar where I was sat next to 2 girls, one of which was a Steelers fan, during their Kansas City MNF 2011 game where they won but were awful. Me and a random Giants fan next to me spent the entire game winding her up- the poor girl got proper grumpy haha! The only problem with travelling alone I felt was when jet lag kicked in and it would be handy to have someone motivate you to do something.

I went to Washington between the games in 2011 and it was really good, although tipped it down most of the time. Some great museums and the monuments really are worth seeing. Not much of a nightlife there though, so 2 full days to see the sites should do you. I also went to a Caps game which was pretty cool. Didn't go to any Redskins games, but as far as I know FedEx is a trek from the city. Having said that, I went to a Jets game which is miles from NYC and it was easy enough so shouldn't have thought it'd be a problem. On weekdays the MARC train runs between Balt and DC and is about 4quid. You'd pay about 15pounds for a normal fare if travelling on Thanksgiving.

Yeah I'd definitely be up for a few beers if I'm there, I know some decent bars in Fed Hill (courtesy of a couple of girls I met in one of them!), and no doubt I'd see you at tailgating at each game anyway!

King Chong- when I went it was all relatively cheap, and included 3 games (2 in Balt, 1 in NYC), as well as a few days in Washington. In DC and NYC I was in hostels (both very nice ones) and in Balt I was in a hotel which was about £70 a night. The 1 night I was there at Thanksgiving was a bit more, but can't recall exactly. Flights were 420 pounds via Trailfinders- flying in to BWI and out at JFK.

You can do it as cheap as you want as a trip over for just a couple of nights and a game would probably be around 700 (ticket prices vary but cheapest are about 70) in Baltimore, but obviously if you wanted to make the most of things, then it would be a fair bit more, although not hugely if you were happy to doss it up in hostels.

Never really travelled (something i regret a bit) by myself so Im slowly coming round to the idea. Had a change of heart yesterday and felt bad about the gf not coming with me but she told me not to be stupid and do it. Found a good one there :) Just got told to bring her back a Torrey Smith jersey :D

Hows the nightlife in Baltimore? was only there for a few days last time so didn't get to party really.

Will need to give Tim a shout to see if its cool to join them again for some tailgaiting. was a good laugh last time. Also checking out things to do in Baltimore. Any idea if you can do stadium tours at the bank? would love to do one.

Cheers for the advice.. Hope things work out for your Miami trip if not see you in Baltimore :D

Haha nicely done, hope the Smith jersey is enough to buy back some of the few year's worth of brownie points you'll be spending!

The nightlife's not too bad actually- there's quite a few decent areas, like Federal Hill, Fells Point (which I haven't actually been to) and the Power Plant. Didn't do any clubbing but I'm not really into that sort of thing, although I did get forced to dance in Mothers last time haha. Definitely not my strong point! Lots of bars dotted about here and there too.

In Baltimore there obviously isn't as much to see and do compared with DC and other tourist hotspots, but the aquarium is pretty good (Don't go with a hangover- made that mistake and nearly died. Honestly, that post Bengals game night in Fed Hill last time got a bit carried away!!), and the harbour with USS Constellation is great to walk round and there's Fort Henry and Federal Hill itself. There's the baseball museum and Camden Yards too. Will be out of season for a game though.

I don't think they do stadium tours at the Vault unfortunately, as I'm sure I saw someone ask on ravens24x7 not long ago. Def worth getting in touch with Toe about tailgating again, I'm sure he would be cool with it.

Said I would take her to London sometime this year then NYC/BAL next sept (football/baseball season lol) to make up for it so we are all good.

Nearly dying at an aquarium sounds like a good story lol

Just read on the official website that you need to be in groups of 20 or above to do one. A little disapointed by that. Might give them an email and explain where I am coming from and see if there is anything they can do lol

Roll on November :D

Going next year on a two week road trip with my son and both son-in-laws. Starting off in Boston, down to NY, carry on down to Baltimore, DC and then the HOF across to indiana and up to Chicago, Lambeau and finally Minneapolis

Thats not bad, would love to do it one day

Having already visited Baltimore & Washington as a child I don't think I'd go back unless it was for the Ravens
But there are many other parts of the U.S. I'd like to visit so think I'd just time it well with a Ravens away game!

Sounds like quite a trip. Bet you can't wait for next year to come round.

Sneddon11 15.05.2013 08:10 PM

I'll be heading over. My Dad works out in Baltimore on occasions so he has some connections for accomodation etc. Will be heading over with him for Thanksgiving Steelers and Vikings games at M&T. Hopefully catch a Redskins game as well depending on funds, depending on flights will either be vs 49ers the Monday before Thanksgiving or Giants game between Steelers and Vikings...

Thanksgiving seems a great time to go if expensive as Skins and Ravens both have 3 straight home games so plenty of choice.

Will be a fun couple of weeks!!! :)

going to boston in august, and then down to baltimore for a couple of days to watch some baseball. But looking to do a second trip for the thanksgiving game, and maybe the jets game too if i can afford it. Washington is worth going to, went there last time, easy to do in a day trip if you don't want to move hotels. If your looking at hotels hotwire is good, you don't get the name of the hotel until after you book, but you get the location and stars, and there's sites that can pretty much tell you anyway, we got the hilton in Baltimore for

joshua_1982 05.06.2013 08:31 AM

cut me off for some reason. should say for 70 pounds a night

Pound symbol does not work on the site, it automatically cuts off the rest of the post after you type on I'm afraid.

It's a strange one as on rare occasions it does work. Got a mind of it's own...

Nice one. You should be able to get tickets now from stubhub and NFL ticket exchange. From what I have heard getting tickets direct from the Ravens is near impossible. We should all arrange a beer or 2 in Baltimore especially as there looks like there will be a few of us over :)

Think I am going to start getting things booked soon.

Alright Mikeyshaps are you any clearer on your trip yet?

Nice one :)

Been keeping an eye on the prices from time to time and thought they had went up. Looked into flying to NYC and gtting the train through but that would have been to much messing around and wouldn't have saved that much.

Think ticket prices will go up or down depending on how the team are playing. Whats your pland for when you are over there P52?

Flying direct to baltimore saves me 7hr of waiting at NY cost 60 GBP extra.Moved hotel to Mt Veron easier to catch the circular bus.
Plan is to try and see as much as i can.Looking to meet a friend in DC the Sunday before i fly back.Apart from that have a few beers and meet interesting people.

Cannot see the Steelers game getting cheaper i have just paid near 300USD for a ticket in 541 paid a bit more as it was instant delivery. Jets game should get cheaper

Definatly interested in a uk fans meet out there.

Peterborough52 06.07.2013 08:28 PM

Just got my jets ticket . Now just have to pay for it all.

mikeyshaps 22.07.2013 11:18 AM

Afraid it's looking like I won't make it over this season- I've just had an offer accepted for a house and it's a fixer-upper so most of my funds will be going into this!!

Hopefully get over next year, maybe for the Tampa road game and a home game if the schedule works out.

joshua_1982 14.08.2013 01:14 AM

Have booked now. In Baltimore for the jets game, going to washington for the Monday night game and an nba game on the Tuesday and then back to Baltimore for thanksgiving before a couple of days in New York. My best friends coming with me now, looking forward to it already, hurry up week 12!

This is almost exactly what I did in 2011, although sub the Wizards game for a Caps one! NBA was on strike when I was there.

Have a great trip mate.

I've got ambitions to plan a trip over to see the Ravens next season, which will be dependant on the fixture schedule of course, but I'd hope to catch at least two home games at the M&T Bank Stadium before flying home. Ideally, I'm hoping that we'd be at home on one of the Sunday's and then have a home fixture on the following Thursday. Then that would free up some time to go somewhere else the following weekend before heading home.

I'd also love to go and see NY, and maybe Washington as well (I'd like to see a game for sure at the MetLife stadium as well).

What is the travel like from NYC to Baltimore? I was speaking to a friend at university from the Maryland area and he said that I would be better staying in Washington and just travelling through to Baltimore for the games on the day.

I sense that I'll have to do some planning to make sure that I get a good trip sorted out, but any advice on what to do would be great!
