The Big Blue Giants Thread

I thought that as the Giants didn't have a thread, I should start one.

I guess the big news is Pace possible move to Giants (sorely needed)

What would be a too higher price to pay? Shockey? (definately) Strahan?

What do people think?

Giants55 28.02.2005 06:01 PM

Re:The Big Blue Giants Thread

The Pace trade is dead and was just a stupid rumor in the 1st place... the Giants have 2 much money in Allen to trade him and woud suffer a hit on the cap which we dont need.
Strahan and Shockey wouldnt be traded in a million years... there 2 of our best players and if E.A did trade them away i think he'd be fired on spot.

Re:The Big Blue Giants Thread

I agree. But what Giants going to do then? They need to sort the OL!

Re:The Big Blue Giants Thread

I was just on the Giants message board, and there is a bit of talk about Giants going after Plaxico or Derrick Mason

Anyone else heard anything about this? Good Idea? Surely there are other areas to sort first!

Re:The Big Blue Giants Thread

i'm not sure Mason would be a great idea, the Giants need some youth in that receiving core. They really should be trying to build that O-line though.

I thought Mason was already spoken for? As for Plax, there are new rumors that he may be going to the Ravens... again.

Toomer is getting on a bit, but Taylor was becoming a bit of a go to guy, he has plenty of pace, and wasn't doing to badly for a rookie. He could develop into a good WR. And Shockey has years ahead. Shockey is someone who would definately benefit from a better OL.

The trouble is that FAs talk to anyone, and suddenley they are moving there!

I know what you mean,i'm annoyed that most of the good Free agent WRs are already off the market.I've heard though that TJ Houshmandzadeh could be going to the Giants though.

I heard that one too. I still feel that the Giants should be concentrating in other areas. The other name bandied round is Terrell from Bears.

Can you actually fit Houshmandzadeh on a shirt!?!

Any opinions on Wahle becoming a Giant? Do you think EA will go for it? Or is he going to be too expensive?

If anyone has anything else to add, please do! ;D

Opinions on Pierce please?!?

Who should we now look for for OL, Jennings and McKenzie are supposed to be in the running.

Re:The Big Blue Giants Thread

There not going, as Giants55 said, EA would be lynched if that ever happened. Pace isn't coming, but hopefully we can pick up a couple of decent OL, especially as we have plenty of room in the cap and no first round pick to offer a large contract to.

Divisional hate I suppose but I hate new York and you are in the same division.

plus you beat us by fluke.

If Coakley didnt give you 15 yrds with that face mask then it would have been ours!

How do all you Giants fans think Eli will do next season and do you think that Coughlins decision to take out Warner in the middle of the season and replace him with Eli, do you think if we'd stuck with Warner we would have been looking at the playoffs?

In the short run, it seemed like abad idea, but Warner never was the future, and IMO, i think they brought him out at the right time.
He was getting sacked a lot, not all his fault admitidly, and so it enable Eli to come in with no expectations.

If we can improve our OL, he will be better (he couldn't get any worse). I think he has above average targets (Shockey, Toomer, Hilliard, Tyree and Barber) and he will make better reads. It all experiance at the end of the day.

If he is 3/4 the quality of his brother, he will be a franchise player for years to come. (I just hope he does better with post season)

I think 15-20 TDs maybe more, 10 picks. I think Barber will have another career year, especially with a better OL

Just wondering if any of you watched Giants Online on the Giants.com website hosted by Bob Papa, great stuff to watch during the season, usually had 'The Big Open', 'One on One', 'What the Fans are Saying' and 'Final Thoughts'.
Lots of arguements, predictions etc.. If any Giant fans haven't seen this i suggest you check it out especially when the new season starts!

Re:The Big Blue Giants Thread

I think he'll do fine, he showed alot of promise in the last three games of the season, i must admit i thought it was a very bad idea taking out Warner and i also think that if Warner had stayed starting qb we would have been looking at a playoff place but like coughlin said 'Eli is the future and the future starts now'.
I guess we'll see as soon as the pre season begins, hopefully he should have a lot of help on the OL.

We will have home-and-home series with division rivals Dallas, Philadelphia and Washington and host Arizona, St. Louis, Minnesota, Denver and Kansas City. We will travel to San Francisco, Seattle, New Orleans, Oakland and San Diego.

Theres some tough games in there next season Eli needs to be on point to ensure a playoff spot and to hopefully knock the Eagles off top.

What does everyone else think about the fact that we seem to be missing out on a good offensive tackle?

Do you think that Giants feel Luke is good enough? Or is there a unheard of that Giants are after?

Re:The Big Blue Giants Thread

The OL was bad last year but I also think the problem was that Eli didn't have anyone to throw the ball to. Toomer and Hilliard had bad years and Shockey was the only target most of the time. As soon as Eli started finding Tyree against the Cowboys we looked a different team.

We have got to go after a WR in the draft, obviously the OL needs looking at.

What is our new LB Piece like (any good?). Who is likley to be the starters at LB next year?

He is supposed to be good. Good leader, intelligent on the field, hard hitter, just a little undersized. Arrington said "Pierce is the reason the defense is as good as it is" High praise indeed!

I think the starting LBs will be Pierce at MLB, and Green and Emmons at OLB. Torbor and Grieson as reserves.

Not a bad core of LBs strength in run stopping and cover with Emmons and Green, and Pierce is a good leader. Should be good.

Apparently McKenzie is going to NY (or has gone to NY). Good point though about looking better when Tyree started connecting.
Is Luke any good at LT?

Rumors are abound that McKenzie had agreed terms with the Giants, a friend of a friend of McKenzies has put it on BBI

Would be a definate upgrade :D

To be honest i don't know a great deal about him, was he a starter for the jets?

Woolley_Man 04.03.2005 04:01 PM

Re:The Big Blue Giants Thread

Mckenzie was our starting RT.He is a very solid tackle who doesn't make a lot of mental mistakes.I think he didn't commit a penelty in 2003.He is a better Run Blocker than Pass blocker and is an all round good player.

The one thing i will say though is that he took a step backwards this year,he wasn't as good as he was in 2003 which isn't great for a player in their contract year.

At least he wouldn't have to move out of his home though.

Re:The Big Blue Giants Thread

Hilliard has been released, here's what he had to say:

“I’m proud of what I’ve been able to do for eight years,” Hilliard said. “I gave everything that I could possibly give. I wish I could have given more to possibly still be there. But in this business people move around so much.

“I don’t have any regrets. I hope no one in the organization has any. It’s been a great ride. I just want to say good luck to everybody there. It’s been fun. The players have been great. I’m going to keep playing hopefully and I’ll see you guys again.”

Hilliard learned he would be released in an afternoon phone conversation with Coughlin.

“It was disappointing,” Hilliard said. “But looking at everything, I’ll either resurface somewhere or if no one wants me to play ball for them, my life will go on. But I’m looking forward to staying in shape and playing some more good football. I’m only 28 years old. I hope no one is writing me off. There’s a lot of football to play. The Giants are going in a different direction. Everything else will take care of itself.”

To be honest im not to bothered, i think we need a new WR as Hilliard and Toomer arent doing to great, i did hope we would get Muhamed or at least Burress but oh well!

Does anyone know of any good WR that are on the market?

On the giants message board, the names going round are Buress and Terrell (from Bears).
We only have just over $5mill in cap room left and so i think Buress is going to be asking too much. SO possibly Terrell, although a lot of people would like to see Becht got for his blocking skills

allthegiants 08.03.2005 10:35 AM

Re:The Big Blue Giants Thread

So what do people think of this delay by Burress? Do you believe he has the flu? Or do you think he is just messing the Giants around?

Intrested in hearing from Steelers fans on this one.

Like this quote from Peter King in Monday Morning QB

"I think Kareem McKenzie might want to think about who's signing his check. The other day, after signing a $37.75 million contract with a $12.5 million signing bonus, McKenzie was asked about the prospect of possibly shifting from right to left tackle. "I am a right tackle, and I will continue to be a right tackle," he said. Earth to Kareem: The proper answer to that question would be, "I am a right tackle by trade, but for $38 million, if Tom Coughlin wants me to play free safety, hey, I'm up for it." ;D

Now we know Plexico is not coming, do you think the Giants will target anyone else? Jurevicious maybe?

Maybe they should give our young recievers a go. I've always liked the look of Tyree. I think he could do a job for us next year. Maybe we should look to strengthen elsewhere and see how our recievers develop. The problem here however would be that this would put loads of pressue on Toomer and after last season I don't think he can do it anymore.
