Steeler Shirt Numbers countdown to Super Sunday

Of course our mighty Steelers will be there on Super Sunday . . .

so in their honor let's have a countdown of Steeler greats . . . .

99 Levon Kirkland

His playing weight was about 270 or something, but he still moved like a gazelle, he could do it all, stone wall backs and cover TE's in the flat, truly one of my favourite ever Steelers, the central cog in the Cowher Defense of the 90's.

at #98 it can only be 1 person for me

I am talking about 2 superbowls, 5 pro-bowls and one of the greatest nose tackles to grace our jersey and the game. He has excelled in our 3-4 defence becoming the main reason we have been so good against the run. I am of course talking about "Big Snack" Casey Hampton who is my choice for #98 and im sure many others!!!

Can't think of any "greats" that wore the 97 jersey, but instead heres somebody that could have been great if injuries didnt destroy his career.

At #97 I give you Kendrell Bell. The 2001 NFL defensive rookie of the year.

Yep there are definately some numbers which require less thought than others......in continuation I bring you #96 - Brenston Buckner

In his rookie season Buckner didnt do too much however it was the following year when he came into fruition and played solidly on Defence for the 1995 AFC Champion team, unfortunately we lost that superbowl to the Cowboys.........for those that are interested you can buy the signed photo below off ebay for about £7, not a great but the greatest #96 I could think of........

Number 95 is a little bit easier - Multiple pro bowler and member of the 75th anniversary team Greg Lloyd.
A tough linebacker who was the heart and soul of the defence during the 90's

Number 93 NT Joel Steed. Part of the Super bowl team of 95, an under rated player.

the one, the only

DeeBo, Silverback, . . . Mr Harrison, the spark that ignites the current Steelers D!
Great intensity, awesome all round ability in a dynamic package!

Here he is on the play of all plays . . .

I like this game.

Next is double superbowl winning defensive end Travis Kirschke

Thats it for the 90's - numbers that have only been warn in the nfl for the last 26 years (I believe) now we can select players from the golden age of the Steel Curtain.
