Formula One thread (2013 season onwards)

Doesn't seem to be one for F1, so thought i'd make one.

Who is looking forward to the 2013 season? Any expectations for the teams on the grid? Can Lewis Hamilton make a smooth transition to Mercedes? Is Sergio Perez the right man to replace him at McLaren? Can Max Chilton make an impact with Marussia? Can the grid slow down Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel who has won three consecutive drivers championships?

Plenty of intriguing story lines and things to look forward too. Hopefully it will be a close season and that the Brits can have a good year.

Any predictions, thoughts, comments and analysis can go below. Lets get a discussion going!

My Predictions:

* Jenson Button wins the Drivers Championship
* Lewis Hamilton does not manage a single win with Mercedes
* Sergio Perez will win one race
* Max Chilton will surprise with Marussia and perform better than expected
* Sebastian Vettel finishes third behind Alonso and Button

Surprise package: Toro Rosso

There is an existing F1 thread, it just hasn't been used much since the season ended, hence why it's a few pages down, https://forum.nfluk.com/showthread.php?t=89037&page=23

Anyway,

*Vettel to win the Championship again (yawn), unless Ferrari have a car to beat them from the start. Even then, Red Bull tend to do an excellent job of developing the car during the season and finding something to give them an advantage.

*Lewis will win at least one race.

*Perez will push Button much closer than people expect.

*Surprise package: Felipe Massa. He will win a race, and given the machinery (and provided Ferrari allow it), could be a surprise championship contender.

Oh right didn't realise! :o

Should be a great season again. Like you I hope that McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus and co can close the gap on Red Bull. I don't think I could bear Sebastian Vettel winning a fourth consecutive title, even though he is a talented driver.

Great to see another F1 fan on here!

Well were on the eve of the first GP of the season.

If Button is to win the Championship then he must qualify a lot better than what he has been doing in the last year or so. Hes not an aggressive type of driver that can on a regular basis come through the pack and score podiums without help from other drivers.

My theory on Hamiltons move is he made it in haste and probably slightly regrets leaving Mclaren for a team he himself has said is not a contender therefore he only has 2 years to make the move seem worthwhile. I think he spends 3 years at Mercedes and then replaces Button at mclaren which would then give mclaren to exciting drivers.

If Red Bull is as dominant as they were last season then i dont see a change in results which is a shame because i dont think that Vettel is the best driver out there but is in a car that no one can really catch.

This. Lewis and Fernando are both better imo. Red Bulls dominance has put a downer on f1 in recent years for me. That and the constant ridiculous rule changes.

Still looking forward too it. Come on Jenson :)

The constant whining by Hamilton hasn't helped.

Kimi is the best driver in F1 (imho). Also love his plain speaking and that he doesn't feel the need to 'play the game' with the media etc. Love those crazy Finns...:D

I would love Jenson to win it again, but can't quite see it happening - the car is too different, too new - I'm thinking it will be fast, eventually, but it might take too long to bed in and Jenson is not at his best trying to handle a car with rough edges. Mind you, the Brawn car was pretty new too...

That would be the dominant car that had the same number of wins and the same number of poles as the McLaren of last year?

2011, the Red Bull was dominant, hence why Vettel won the title by a country mile.

When are they going to learn their lesson and change the regs so that the cars will run in the rain?!

Matt NFL Fan 16.03.2013 02:21 PM

First time since Suzuka 2005 that Q2 and Q3 postponed to race day!

I agree, McLaren don't look quite there at the moment which is a concern. Have to say Rosberg looked good for Mercedes in Q1, but the rookies had a bit of a torrid time! Gutierrez, Van der Garde hitting the wall. Well done to Marussia and Max Chilton out qualifying the Caterham's though :)

50% chance of rain tomorrow, so should make for an interesting race.
