Day 8: Louisiana–Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana

Introduction: Started play in 1902, went from being a junior college, up through Division 2, the FCS and finally jointing the FBS in 1973, where they have been an independent as well as members of the Southland, Big West, and currently the Sun Belt conference.

What is a Ragin' Cajun: "A Ragin' Cajun is not a person or an animal, but a feeling that describes our unique way of life. It describes our hot and spicy food and unique music."

Biggest achievement: Winning a share of the Big West conference championship in 1993 and 1994. Winning a share of the Sun Belt championship in 2005. Going 36-16 between 2011 and 2014 including 4 New Orleans Bowl victories, although they would be forced to vacate 2 of the championships, and 22 of the wins due to major NCAA violations.

Biggest failure: 1997-2001, when they went 9-46 in 4 seasons.

Mascot: This pepper

Head coach: Mark Hudspeth, former Delta State (Division 2) safety and QB, got his coaching break at Central Arkansas (FCS) as a graduate assistant. Is currently in his 2nd college head coaching job, after North Alabama (Division 2). Became ULL coach in 2011, and has an all time 46-31 (NCAA revised 23-31) record. has the best win % of any ULL HC, and is the only ULL HC to have won a bowl game.

Notable former players: Elijah McGuire, RB. 2014 Sun Belt player of the year, projected 5th round draft pick by CBS.

Christian Ringo, DE, 2015 All Sun Belt, only ULL player drafted since 2010 (2015 6th round pick, Green Bay).

Charles Tillman, CB, 2003 2nd round pick, First team All Pro, 2013 Walter Payton man of the year.

Stadium: Cajun Field AKA "The Swamp" [oh **** off, there's only one Swamp], opened 1971, 37,000 capacity, last renovated 2014.
