Might be a good idea to Sticky this thread before the season starts as a guide to the new landscape of College Football.

The former Big East, now the American Athletic, looks like the old Conference USA, which in turn has raided the Sun Belt and two teams from the now closed WAC to replace them. Most of the old WAC teams are now in the Mountain West with the others in Conference USA and the Sun Belt.

There will also be 9 new schools moving up a level from the FCS between 2012-15. Georgia Southern are the only school to make the full transition in 2013, with three more next year and finally Charlotte in 2015. Of the 9 new FBS schools this decade, 5 will eventually settle in the Sun Belt, 3 in Conference USA and 1 in the MAC.

The WAC and Big East will still exist as non-football conferences. For those that follow college basketball the Big East will remain a powerful conference having added 3 of the strongest mid-majors to the 7 Catholic non-footballing schools.
