Howzit going at Soldier field? I have always enjoyed looking at and to some degree studying flags, badges, logo's etc. Could anybody tell me what GSH stands for on the upper sleeves inside the hoops, of the Bears field jersey. Also, what is/are: 1)"The Blitz" 2)"The Shotgun" 3)"The Boot-leg" ? Many thanks,The J man.

GSH is George.S.Halas

The shotgun is a formation whereby the Quarterback takes the snap further away from the line of scrimmage. The shotgun name I believe comes from the fact that the centre must 'shoot' the ball back to the QB as opposed to just handing it to him as with other formations.

A Blitz is where the defence brings additional defenders to attack the opponents QB before he throws the ball a blitz can also be aimed at the running back on running plays. It is when a team rushes more than four players.

The boot-leg is a play where the Quarterback rolls out to the side on a play in an effort to create time and space to throw. It is generally used in conjunction with a fake run to confuse the defence.
