LOsing the job isn't writing him off though.

He was always going to struggle to adapt coming from a spread offense in college.

He needs to buckle down and work this season.

No, I mean right now. Not writing off his entire career just yet!

They need to minimise the JF mania and keep him out of the spotlight. If he is going to have 'growing pains' then you can't really afford for him to struggle for 16 games. They have Hoyer, and Manziel is the mid season option to turn to if things aren't going great. They can't do it the other way around and bench Manziel if things don't look great and turn to Hoyer, that would be the end of JF in Cleveland.

Fair to say that the JM mania has probably been quelled somewhat because of his pre-season performances thus far.

I find it quite curious though; if both Hoyer and Manziel had looked fairly competent or impressive, then I'd have expected the Manziel hype to be through the roof and fans would be calling for Manziel over Hoyer even if the levels of positive play were the same. Yet as it is with them both doing badly it would seem most are probably happier to go with Hoyer right now.

At least gives Hoyer a chance to resume his form from last season, which while not great didn't seem to be dreadful.

I dont think it was ever his job to lose? Hoyer has been the #1 all along. Johnny is a QB drafted late in the first round who MAY be needed to start at some point. The news here, is there is no news. (IMO anyway)

To be fair though before Monday night he had only 5 out of 18 reps with the first team unit and Monday night was his first real look at anything remotely like a first team showing anything like remote pressure/speed etc.

To be fair i would rather see him struggling now than looking real good against 2/3rd team and then blowing

To be honest i think the Job was never really Hoyers in first place and this is what has seen him struggle, he has put way to much on himself to win a job i think he believes was never really his.

Hopefully now he relaxes and grabs the bull by the horn so to speak
