Not much of a UFC fan but the champion seemed to come out flying and the challenger seemed shocked. Does the contest end as soon as someone gets knocked to the floor ? I thought he could of continued after a standing count.

No, TKO's are similar to those in boxing. Refs will usually stop it if the fighter isn't making an effort to defend/protect himself.

RDA vs McGregor & Holm vs Tate for UFC 197. They could literally pick bums off the street to fight in the other 7 televised bouts and I'd still watch the entire thing.

bit of a joke putting Tate in the title fight but the other match sounds good.

So is McGregor moving up weight and dropping his belt to go for RDAs? Cant see RDA moving down to feather.

I don't get why the UFC would make this fight. Both of these guys are flying high, and with McGregor moving up a division it means they'll ruin one weight class one way or another. If Dos Anjos wins then where does McGregor go? Back to Featherweight to fight Frankie Edgar? Why not make that fight anyway? If McGregor wins then what happens to Dos Anjos? probably a rematch, but still.

Great fight, just don't see why they would make it......apart from It being a great fight, but that's not normally how things work straight away.

It'll take place at 155, so McGregor keeps his 145 belt no matter what (as I understand it) If he wins then he holds both belts. I think in all honesty it's just an insurance policy for the UFC, so that either way his next fight after this will be a title defence; if he loses to RDA, then his next fight will be defending his 145 belt vs Edgar, if he beats RDA, then it'd just be whichever fight would make the most money out of Edgar at 145, or the likes of Anthony Pettis, Tony Ferguson, or the uncrowned champ Nurmagomedov at 155.

Why's that? It's not like there's a long list of worthy challengers at this point. Holm wants to fight now, she's earned that right, the champ shouldn't have to wait for a challenger who may or may not be ready in 7 months time. There are really only 3 fights you could make: Tate, Zingano, Nunes. Nunes isn't a big enough name yet, and Zingano hasn't fought in a year and shouldn't get a title shot off the back of losing to Ronda in 14 seconds. Tate is on a 4 fight win streak, and was promised that the fight with Eye would be for a shot at the title, she won, and the shot was given to Holm. She's also a big name, so an impressive win for Holly makes the rematch with Ronda that much bigger.
