Yeah, hopefully with his move inside and a fresh start we might see more of the potential people thought Ward had when he was a 2nd rd selection.

There are quite a few 'big' DE's who have looked more impressive when they take their speed and length inside. Preston Smith (Redskins) was a guy who looked more disruptive inside than out the year he was drafted. He was a long armed DE weighing in at around 275lbs, just like Ward iirc.

He's a good fit for Marinelli's scheme too. He seems to value 'smaller' DT, like Tyrone Crawford. 6'4/6'5 285/295lbs, with the reach to give Guards trouble. Upfield penetrates too.

Just lookin at a few stats regarding the D Line, and theres plenty of length!
Irving....37 1/2 !!!!
Tapper ..34 3/8
Ealy.....34 1/4
Charlton...34 1/4
Ward, Crawford Collins and DLaw all over 33"
Not sure about Ash.
Odds out are Woods (31") Price (32 1/4")

Dorance Armstrong 34 3/4 too!

Yep, they value that attribute in players. So much so, I bet you could rule out any D Lineman in next year's draft who doesn't surpass that 33" benchmark. (unless they are elite prospects - Aaron Donald 32 5/8).

Marinelli likes his guys to be able to extend and control the opposition.

Yeah i think we can forget about Donald, the guys a freak Not sure how Woods fits the bill or Price, they are more like genuine NTs in a 3-4 i think? If only Irving could put that freaky length into more consistent play he would be something!

In fact, i,m sure Irving has the longest arms in the NFL, its not something i really looked into but its important in certain positions. By comparison, JJ Watt has 34" arns Tyron Smith over 36 and surprisingly Lael Collins only 33.Aldon Smith is also 36"

I didn't think it was physically possible to have longer arms than Tyron Smith! Another little snippet of info, Smith put up 29 reps on the Bench Press......Irving? 13. Just shows how strong Smith was.....age 20!

Another thing to look at is wingspan (so including their chest). Connor Williams and La'el Collins arm length is very similar, around 33". La'el Collins' wingspan is 4" bigger though. 78" v 82". Perhaps it makes Collins a little better suited to OT than Williams?

Fleming put up 26 reps Collins only 21, but i like Collins at RT, and can only see him getting better, BTW JJ Watt has hands like buckets, not sure how important that stat is, but i,m sure most QBs would love hands that big! over 11" Dak is over 10 which is still big

Seems like Zack Martin is about to sign a 6 year deal according to reports in the US.

Yep. Fully deserved. Arguably the best in the league, durable too.

That'll be Smith, Frederick and Martin tied down for the next 6 years! This O line should be together for at least 2 more seasons, but it's going to get real interesting when it comes time to re-sign La'el Collins. They surely can't have 4 OL with cap hits in excess of $10m/year.....can they?!

Think i,m right in saying Collins is signed thru 19, but if hes released after 18 its only 1 mill dead cap? Fleming is 25 and would save them having to give Collins a huge contract?
