McGregor got caught up a bit in the fallout of the recent MMA death, I wonder if it's anything to do with that...

How much money has that guy made now though? Apparently it's £2m+. Doubt that's enough for him really.

Strikes me as a stunt. McGregor is coming off a loss. The Diaz rematch isn't all that popular. UFC 197 isn't exactly a stellar card. It'll be a quiet month for UFC really until UFC 198 rolls around. Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't do this to see how much attention it would get, then he can say to Dana 'look, just look how important I am'.

i'm not sure on the order of events but Dana pulled Connor from UFC 200 because Connor wouldnt disrupt his training to promote the event.

seems like a fairly flawed plan by Dana, surely there would of been ways around it with video and such plus just the name would of been enough.

And there we have it.

Conor citing 'unrealistic demands' as his retirement reasons.

It seems like a case of McGregor wanting to do as he pleases and Dana saying you aren't bigger than the UFC.

The thing is McGregor is 27. He can 'retire' now and still come back later, at which point Dana and McGregor can stage a 'mega fight' for his return to the octagon and make millions.

Look at all the will he, won't he with GSP. When/if GSP returns he's top the bill and earn himself and the UFC a packet. GSP is reserved though, just imagine the hype of McGregor coming out of 'retirement'!

If he has retired then he'll still be relevant for the next 10 years in terms of a comeback fight.

Maybe, just maybe, this is an elaborate ruse. Maybe they've both realised their mistake in making Diaz/McGregor II and this is a way to bail on the fight. Now McGregor can come down in weight again and face the winner of Edgar/Aldo without having to win or lose in a war against Diaz. It protects the 'brand' in the best way possible.

Joe Rogan reckons McGregor made $5m from the Aldo fight and at least that again, if not more, from the Diaz fight. Maybe he does call it quits. Another thing Rogan pointed out, McGregor almost retired pre-UFC because of health issues that other fighters he knew were suffering from. Like others have pointed out, he was affected by the death of the Portuguese fighter recently. Maybe he feels he ignored his feelings on retirement once before and made a lot of money, but to test fate twice might not be wise?

Have nothing but respect for McGregor, worked his way up from a working class area in Dublin to be the face of UFC. Nobody over here really cared or cares about the sport unless he is fighting. If he is retired for good I'm sure he'll be successful in whatever career he pursues in future.

No surprise, Connor isn't retiring. Just wants a camp without as many distractions, and feels (probably rightly so) that he's earned the UFC so much money in the last 8 months that he should be given a little leeway to do things his way. he's willing to some of, but not all, the promotion.

Interesting to see if he gets back on the UFC 200 card now or not..............

LOL - Is this UFC or WWE.....

Non-Retirement retirements bug me...

To be fair without UFC Connor wouldn't have made that money elsewhere... not sure they owe him anymore than he owes them in that respect.
