Default The Good, The Bad and The Goodel 2016 Season

vs Cardinals 11-9-2016

The Good

A QB not named Brady!!!!!
James White looked effective.
Hogans TD
The rest of the AFC East

The Bad
some of the tackling wasn't exactly crisp was it.

The Goodell
Not calling a TO when Arizona where lining out for a Figgy, wasted a good 20 seconds I recon, which would hav made a huge difference if they had scored.

the good

the offence with a load of missing talent playing way above expectation and without the turnovers would have blown everybodys pick for the superbowl out of there own stadium

Al and Cris reminding the world that the NFL lost deflategate.

the run game,Blount and White showed we are stocked there and hopefully will still get gametime when Lewis come's back.Blounts TD run with half the Arizona defence on his back was great

M Bennett who seemed to have Chandler Jones blocked alot in the run game 1 on 1.

the bad

my reaction when Hightower hurt his knee early on and did not come back on the next series

not doubling Fitzgerald on 3rd down's a bit more often.but credit to him for making some stunning catches

the Goofdell

the official who called Bennett for holding on a perfect block that cost us on a 4th quater drive.Tony Corrente's crew should NOT do Patriot SNF games after Denver last year as well.

The Good:

Blount when it's goalline or 3rd and long.
Justin Coleman's coverage in the slot.
Garoppolo for the most part ran the offense effectively and made a few plays when needed.
James White converted for first downs in a few key spots.
Edelman 7/7 on catches.
Bennett's blocking work, which isn't what he's known for.
Winning as a 9.5 point underdog.

The Bad:

Blount when it's a normal run.
Logan Ryan's coverage on Fitzgerald.
Marcus Cannon pass protecting like a cardboard cut-out once again.

The Goodell:

Letting the Cardinals drive all the way into range to win the game when a great special teams play had them starting on the 8. Gonna need to finish games better.

The Good:

Jimmy! 3 TDs, and the poise you need for long term success at the position.
The receiving core of Edelman, Amendola, Hogan, Bennett and White provided more than enough options even without Gronk.
Blount making some flashy plays again! (...see later)
The safeties played quite well.
Dante continues to make a bad O-line good enough.
McDaniels! The gameplan with Jimmy was superb.

The Bad:

Blount going for 19 yards on first 9 carries. I put this on a mix of the line, and his inability to maximise yards if he doesn't smell the endzone. Give him a hole, he'll get 10-20. Put defenders in front of him he'll get -2 or a TD depending on field position.
The corners - Ryan struggled for the 2nd game in a row, Butler gave up over 100 yards passing, Coleman beat for an easy TD.

The Goodell:

Jimmy's injury! Wouldn't even be surprised if Goodell had a role in it
The inability to close out the game - our D got walked all over in the 2nd half!

I'm sure I missed some stuff, I generally pick a few things out on 2nd viewing.

the good

Jimmy G and the offence, one of the best 25 mins of football i have seen for a while,at times it looked like we where playing against fresh air(anyone remember when Suh signed and the big headline was Suh was coming for us)

Chris Long/M Bennett - great free agent pick ups who have been needed with Gronk/Ninkovich been out.

Blount - slow start but when the dolphins knew we where running and stacked the box had some great runs when he bounced outside(hint for thursday maybe)

Duron Harmon - hard a great game playing free safety with McCourthy been nearer the line to help on there tightend.

the bad

Turnovers - with injuries stacking up we need to cut down on the fumble's.

pass rush - we had atleast 1 sack in 30 straight games before yesterday but none yesterday.

CBS - why do they only do in depth sideline investigation in QB headsets not working at Foxboro then start the "you know" wink wink garbage.

the ugly

the 2nd half defence,Tannehill went 22-27 for 273yds 2 TD's after halftime.think we went into too many 3 man rushes 8 defenders dropping and got smoked. The corners could not keep up with any Dolphin receiver.Prevent defence just allowed to many easy throws and quick scoring drives.

taking the Ball out of Blounts hands in the 4th Quater,we where marching down for a fieldgoal attempt then a called 2 pass plays that resulted in a holding call and a sack that meant a punt when the kick would have given us a 17 point lead.Just run the power sweep till then can prove they can stop it.

the officials picking up an offensive PI flag on the Dolphins after a pick near the line of scrimmage when if it had been the Pats running that play they would have kept the call because only we run illegal pick plays.

vs Bills:

The Good:
Defensive adjustments at half time reduced 13 points to just 3 points in the latter half.

The Bad:
Everything else.

The Goodell:
Knowing there's no way we get shut out with Brady in that game.

the good

Bennett again showing that he is going to be great in our offence once Brady is up to speed.Gronk also played 70% of the offence this week so thats his 2 game pre-season over

Hightower - not his best game but glad he the knee is getting better.

Logan Ryan - top tackler with 14,when your cornerback is that busy it shows that players up front aren't winning there 1 on 1's

the bad

tackling - 17 missed tackles that added over 100 yards to the Bills total, very un-patriot like to see bad basic football

the zone defence - dropping 8 at times and giving very average receivers nearly 10 yards of space for easy Taylor completions

the pass rush - same as the 2nd half versus the dolphins, hardly any real pressure.Hope Ninkovich can add a healthy body to the depth soon.

2 Pats defenders getting neutral zone flags for lining up off-side.

the ugly

making Rex look like a genius

the officials - No flag on a Edelman horsecollar but a soft flag on a chop block against Solder. Also the "crew" not been ready for the 3rd and 1 play down near the goal line that was going to gives us a 1st down but they blew it dead.A penalty then fumble followed instead of 1st and Goal.

Ryan allowed 7 completions so once again showing he can be close but no cigar, probably accounts for half his tackles or at least 5.

Think that was.more to do with been in Zone way to much, the official stats are given against the nearest defender and Ryan was playing the outside/sideline as Woods was just running little slants/in cuts.

we just played like it was Aaron Rodgers playing for the Bills.

Was Butler and the rest of the D not also playing zone? I'm tired of making excuses for Ryan. He's just an OK corner and we'll have to deal with that reality.

Anyway... vs the Browns

The Good:

Brady's back!

Bennett! 3 TDs!

The Bad:

Blount didn't get anything going even when we needed to run the clock out.

The D could have been better considering the opposition.

The Goodell:

Gotta feel for the Browns with that QB situation. Whitehurst is truly horrific and now even he's injured!

As for the Pats, nothing was that Goodell this week really.
