Bad Hire, His record in defensive drafting and FA in SF was terrible, apart from Willis, and Nate Clements.

The players didnt respond to him, as you could see they started to play a lot harder once Singletary came in .Plus his run defenses were continually bad in SF, which isnt a good sign considering Denvers inability to stop the run as it is.

Thats as an HC, he can certainly do a job as a DC for the Broncos, plus having experience(despite his record as a HC) around a 1st time HC imo is invaluable.

Because of Marvin Lewis.

Problem is as the defensive specialist, he will be responsible for evaluating talent and new additions. Nothing he did in SF would fill me with confidence in that respect. His DC reputation is almost entirely down to riding the coattails of Marvin Lewis.

While he will have input he wont be the #1 guy on talent evaluating, he'll have to go through McDaniels and whoever they bring in to be GM (has that been decided yet?). He wont be the #1 guy like he was.

Completely disagree with you there, Nolan was a better DC than Marvin Lewis was for us. Lewis had ridiculously good personnel when he was in Baltimore, particularly in 2000. His schemes were very vanilla and he pretty much just lumped the personnel out there and they were so good you couldn't do anything against them. It was down to the personnel, not his schemes. Nolan on the other hands switched schemes with us from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and still kept the defence in the top ten every year bar one. He wasn't well liked by some players in Baltimore but that was mainly because Ray Lewis didn't like him. He's an excellent DC and I think he should do a good job with the Broncos.

Nolan's issues are as a communicator, his football mind is brilliant, he comes up with good schemes and oversaw the transition of our defence from a 4-3 personnel based defence to a 3-4 scheme based defence which Rex Ryan has extended, altered and added his own inimitable touch to. I think Nolan will do a fine job in Denver.
