* * * THE PFL WEEK 4 REVIEW * * *

Week 4 of the PFL featured some big hitters matching up. It was a good week for the Irish coaches and a busy week for the CGN Coaches soapbox. Here is how it all went down.

BLUE North
The PFL game of the week was undoubtedly the meeting of Chicago and the Detroit as unbeaten Lisburngamer took Bears to meet the reigning champ Tuscan’s Lions. The first half was surprisingly mistake ridden. The Lions twice got near the end zone but an interception at the 2 and a fumble at the 6 cost them, particularly the fumble, which was recovered by Brian Urlacher for a Bears TD. The Bears also threw a first half interception as they failed to register an offensive score. The Lions eventually did manage a TD before the half to tie the score 7-7 at the interval. The second half was a tense affair with both sides putting together good drives but neither able to get in the end zone as defences reigned supreme. Both sides kicked a FG and as the clock ran down Lisburn put together a great drive and kicked the winning field goal as time expired. Final 13-10 to the Bears. A fitting end to an even contest and already we are looking forward to the rematch later in the season.

BLUE South
Unbeaten DiodeX and his Saints had their toughest test this week as they came up against two-time Super bowl finalist Soulman and his Falcons. Both sides were unbeaten coming into this game. Things did not go well for Soul however as Drew Brees and Reggie Bush ran riot. Brees had 3 TDs and Bush had 119 rush yards and 54 receiving yards and a TD as the Saints romped home 27-14. Soul played another divisional game this week as he took his Falcons to Florida to meet with Misakimi and his Buccaneers. This match up was dominated by the passing game due to the extremely poor field conditions. Atlanta were first on the board but fell behind to a FG and an interception returned for a TD. The Bucs then paid for some over aggressive defence before the half and gave up a big TD to fall behind 14-10. The Falcons extended their lead in Q3 with a FG but a stirring Q4 comeback saw the Bucs regain the lead 20-17. The Bucs defence then came up good in the last 2 minutes to hold the Falcons scoreless. Soulman was devastated by this defeat and faced the press afterwards bemoaning his ability to marshal his troops in the art of pass defence, something he felt he had the handle on in previous seasons. He was not short of advisors in the CGN coaching forums.

Another coach in this division also had a bad week. Hamo17 is much better know for his prowess on the FIFA fields but in the PFL he suffered two close defeats this week. First up his Panthers hosted Yammer and his Jaguars. In a low scoring but tough encounter dominated by the running game the Jags won out 10-7. Later in the week Hamo also travelled to the fortress that is St Petersburg to meet Misakimi and his Bucs. The Panthers had an incredible 103 yard interception return but just could not get their offence going at all. The Bucs however did and they notched up a TD with a play action pass and couple of FGs to get the 13-10 victory.

This division also featured a battle of unbeaten teams as US coach CashToPlayXbox took his Eagle to FedEx field to meet the Redskins coached by the big Irishman Berty44. As expected this was tight game. Cash failed to find his rhythm during the first half and the Skins jumped out to an half time 14-0 lead. The Eagles did not score until Q4 when a TD closed the gap to 7 but the Skins had done enough and ran out winners 14-7. These sides meet again in the last week of the season in a contest, which even at this early stage looks as if it could decide the division winner.

JD Curly still has Xbox 3 rings disease but is hoping to return to action next week. Gbryne74 and his Cowboys are still looking for their first win. Da g3nrul3 visited Dallas this week with his Patriots. The Pats looked comfortable at the half, winning 20-6 but a stirring second half comeback by the Cowboys came up just short. A missed extra point and a failed 2 point conversion were the difference in the end as the Pats held on to win 27-25.

Appropriately named Themouth1888 belatedly got his season under way this week and already looks as his he can not only walk the walk but also talk the talk! First up his Seahawks faced the winless 49ers coached by Ubeep. In a scrappy game the 49ers could not muster any offence and failed to get on the board. The windy snowy conditions did not seem to suit the team from California but the Mouth was happy as his team from up the Pacific coast won out 18-0. The Mouth faced a bigger challenge later in the week as his Seahawks also hosted the undefeated explosive Arizona Cardinals, coached by drasticthunder. The Cards were up 17-7 and looking good as they had the Hawks penned in at their own 2 yard line as the half wound to a close. One big pass play later and the Hawks were at the Card’s 5 from where they ran in a TD. Seattle then had first possession of the 2nd half and used it to move ahead for the first time 21-17. A interception for a TD for Seattle stopped the Cardinals on their next drive and they never recovered as the Mouth’s team waltzed home 34-23 in the battle of the birds. Two league victories in a week was a good return for the Mouth but it is undoubtedly his lucky “friendly” victory over Toffduff which is the talk of the boards at CGN. It is that rematch which most are looking forward to (if it ever takes place).

After failing to score in his first match this week Ubeep and his 49ers at least got a TD in their other match. Unfortunately they were completely outclassed by veteran madden baller Regreid and his Rams. Reg easily got his first win 41-7 in a very one sided game which saw the 49ers throw 4 interceptions!

RED North
Last week we covered Toffduff and his Bengal’s 17-14 victory over Crewealexrock and his Steelers in the first game played in week 4. In the only other game played in this division FieldgeneralUK guided his Ravens to a comfortable 20-3 victory over AdeyL and his Browns. Adey spends a great deal of time co-ordinating the league to the detriment of his madden practice and unfortunately this showed in his inability to score a TD for the second straight game. The Ravens now top this division and at 4-0 look strong favourites for the division title.

RED South
Buners and his Texans prop up this division after being walloped 45-17 by Beanhead and his Titans. As Beanhead so eloquently put it in his post match press conference “its not his fault he is crap!” Hulldofan and his Colts moved to the top of this division with a comprehensive 35-17 victory over the Yammer and his Jags. Jacksonville actually led this one 17-14 at the half but completely collapsed in the second half giving up 3 TDs. This division is a tight one and all four teams still are in the hunt. Buners and his Texans hit injury problems at the weekend as his XBox cought the dreaded red ring disease which has also afflicted JD Curly. Buners will now be out of action for a couple of weeks and all at the PFL wish him a speedy recovery.

RED East
This is another division which should also go down to the wire. Burnzee Boyee is well known as one of the more vocal coaches in the league regularly holding press conferences (usually berating his players). After Miami’s last second loss to the Redskins last week the Dolphins coach changed tact and spoke positively of his chances of getting a first victory against FIFA guru xElnino9x and his Jets in their week 4 contest. This change of tact seemed to work as the Fins did indeed get their first victory of the season in a cracking game 13-10. This game featured the longest run from scrimmage this season, a 75 yard TD romp by Ronnie Brown of the Dolphins which must be a contender for play of the week. Veteran Brett Favre had a disappointing game for the Jets and failed to produce the goods on the final drive when Nino was trying to come from behind. Burnzee was elated in his post match press conference and is now back in contention for the division. Da g3nrul3 and his Patriots had their second victory of the week when they overcame Dabber and his Bills in Buffalo on Thursday night. This game was unusual for the fact that both sides gave up interceptions, which were returned for TDs. The Patriots never trailed and ran out 24-14 victors to top this division. Da g3nrul3 faces the resurgent Burnzee Boyee in one of the games of week 5. We will be looking out for one of Burnzee’s famous press conferences before that one.

RED West
RaggieOAFC and his Chargers are the fifth team in the league with a 4-0 record after they crushed the Raiders 20-10. Banjaxed was left scratching his head after seeing his Raiders only get 1 yard, (that’s not a typo, 1 yard really!) in rushing offence in the entire game. Now we know JaMarcus Russell can be good but that too heavy a load to carry. Russell threw another 3 interceptions in this one and that now makes 9 picks in his last 3 games, wow !

Raggie’s rematch with Taylor1980 and his Broncos is a week 5 tussle in this division which is much anticipated. Other games to watch include Themouth’s Seattle’s battles with the Regreid and his Rams. Theses sides have to play twice this week. They are scheduled to meet in week 5 and have yet to play their outstanding week 1 fixture.

There are now 5 teams with perfect 4-0 records and that is reflected in this weeks power rankings as they occupy the top 5 places.

1. (1) Chicago Bears (lisburngamer) (4-0) A huge win over the reigning champion confirms his number 1 ranking for the 4th week in a row.
2. (3) New Orleans Saints (DiodeX) (4-0) This experienced campaigner remains unbeaten.
3. (4) San Diego Chargers (RaggieOAFC) (4-0) Moves up one place thanks to drasticthunder’s fall from grace this week combined with a good victory over Banjaxed and the Raiders. Banjaxed had been rated as high as No. 2 in week 2, fell last week to No.9 and disappears off the radar this week with a second consecutive loss.
4. (5) Baltimore Ravens (FieldGeneralUK) (4-0) Another comprehensive victory.
5. (8) Washington Redskins (Berty44) (4-0) Continues to get the tough wins, this time over divisional rival CashToPlayXbox.
6. (7) Detroit Lions (Tuscanraider74) (3-1) Might seem strange that after losing Tuscan climbs a place but he seems to be getting used to the Lions and he only just lost to the No 1 ranked Bears. Still a contender.
7. (-) Seattle Seahawks (Themouth1888) (2-0) Beating Toffduff is always an achievement even if it was a only a “friendly”. Moved to 2-0 but has this will be a telling week as he faces up to veteran Regreid and the Rams twice.
8. (3) Arizona Cardinals (Drasticthunder) (3-1) Threw away a winning position this week and slips right down.
9. (-) New England Patriots (da g3nrul3) (3-1) Enters the rankings for the first time and heads the Red East.
10. (6) Philladelphia Eagles (CashtoplayXbox) (3-1) Tough divisional loss this week but not out of it by any means.
