Default Diving

I'm trying to think of the NFL equivalent of diving. Receivers often try applealig to the ref for pass interference, but I've never seen a dive.

Hmmm i guess it would fall under some kind of 'unsportsman like conduct' perhaps maybe if they sit the floor after the whistle trying to make something look like a late hit??? I have never seen anything like this happen, but it is an interesting point and would be good to find out what the actual rule is on this.

Kickers and punters do it more often than you think in trying to get 'running into the kicker' penalties

-- edit -- that's probably the European influence for you

I would agree with the kickers and punters.

In general though its like rugby, the players just dont have it in their nature. Whether that is down to wanting respect from peers or a general macho behaviour is a debate for another time.

Its interesting though because that is directly opposite to basketball where it is seen as an art to try to draw a foul.

well as far as I can think.......... of course there is no diving as the nature of tackling/contact is a world apart from UK football.

What could a ball carrier hope to achieve by diving? Absolutely nothing! The only thing that can help them is to stay on their feet and gain as many yards as possible. There is nothing at all to be gained from diving, therefore it doesn't happen. No free kicks, no bookings, no suspensions - not trying to be too simplistic here but it's a completely different sport and I don't think you can apply the same questions to it.

Sorry but I'm an argumentative ******* tonight. 8)

Kickers and Punters do it but I've also seen QB's diving to get a roughing the passer call.

I agree with you, you can't comapre the sports I think it would be unlikely you see NFL players diving for the reasons above you've explained. This topic was created by some England fan that continues to whine and moan that they got screwed. Well I have a message for you and all England fans. Get. Over. It.
