Yep, it's useful! Some big games aren't on there, such as anything CBS shows, which tends to be the biggest SEC game of the week, but most games are in there.

Tends to be a series of games which start at 5 our time, then 8:30, then 11ish. Some in between, but these tend to be the main times.

Basically, the champions of the six automatically qualifying (AQ) conferences qualify for a BCS Bowl regardless of record (cf. UConn, 8-4, haven't ranked in the Top 25 all year), and then the other four spots are "at large" bids which are loosely based on the BCS Rankings.

The BCS Rankings are two-thirds based on polls, where the voters give undue preference to teams in AQ teams, thereby giving the AQ conferences two bites at the Cherry.

This year there are four teams in the BCS Bowls who lost at least two games (UConn, Oklahoma, Va Tech, Arkansas), but three one-loss teams missed out (Michigan State, Boise, Nevada).

To be honest there are two very convincing arguments on previous posts about why you should support USC or UCF but if you're still undecided try http://hunch.com/college-football-teams/ It's basic but only meant as a bit of fun. Best advice is to just watch as many games as you can and you will soon start supporting one.
I started supporting Penn State last year because i wanted to support a team that had a proud history, was competetive and played outdoors in a northern state. Should be interesting as this year I applied to go and study at UCLA.

Indeed, the "arguments" for USC/UCF are becoming more and more convincing.

So far my two criteria for picking a team are:

1) Not a West Coast team (The Niners cover that base for me).

2) A team that are not at the top of their game. I jumped on the Niners bandwagon when they were at the top of their game, which was awesome because I got to enjoy a couple of Superbowl victories with them, but I think I'd enjoy watching a team fght for a few years now.

Other than that, think I'll check out the history of college football and watch a few games to see who catches my eye. At the moment I am drawn to one of the Oregon teams which a) Doesn't fit my first criteria, and b) is only because the one and only college game I've seen to date was Oregon vs...Oregon State. No rush, I'll see who jumps out at me.
