In general I'd agree that Week 1 games are tricky to call as so many teams will not be what we expected them to be (for better or for worse).

However.... week 1 Thursday night kickoff games are notoriously really easy to call.

Since the NFL decided to have the depending champion host the kickoff game in 2004, the depending champion is 12-1 in these games.... despite the fact the opponent in these games is usually a quality opponent to make it a nice marketable matchup for the NFL.

I think it's because the home team and home crowd are so much more pumped up for these games being the first proper game since the Super Bowl, making it a really tough matchup for the road team, plus the basic fact that at the end of the day they are playing the supposed top team in the league, on the road. Tough enough at the best of times, without the added emotion of the occasion for the home team and their fans.

I used to take the Friday off work so I could stay up for the kickoff game.... but they've become so predicable I decided I wouldn't bother this year! The last thing I need to do is waste a day of annual leave to watch another Patriots beatdown!

Picking against the pats will always seem foolish lol.

I think the chiefs will be in the playoffs again, they look good... This is the dream destroying Patriots though.

Chiefs 24 pats 27

I'll take the Patriots but not by much.

I agree with the sentiments on here that the Pats will win but it'll be close - I really think Kansas City will be able to move the ball against our defence, and they have the defence themselves that usually causes the Pats issues. But with Gronk healthy and a wealth of RB options, the Pats will target the weak KC linebackers and get enough to win this one. 23-20 Pats

Well you have to also account for my pessimism prior to every Patriots game.
If my predictions were right, we'd lose most games :-)

I'd consider it a result if both teams really beat each other up.

Chiefs fans have always seemed to be in short supply on here, even in the busier times. There was one easily offended one who got himself banned (Larry Johnson?)...

Can't help but think that if this game was any time in the first half of the season apart from opening night, this would be the sort of game the Patriots could lose.

However being opening night I suspect that the game will be close through the first half with a vital Patriots TD just before the halftime leading to a relatively comfortable victory for New England.
