It's the America's team thing. Don't look for anything else. Put yourself up there on a pedestal and people are bound to hate the team ...

SG1's totally obnoxious attitude doesn't help either. I like some Steelers fans on here more than him and that's saying alot

The Cowboys were not the one's who called themselves America's team, it was a name giving to them in an NFL film... Yes they still pride themselves on being known as that, but when you account for 25% of all NFL merchandising sold, then maybe you have every right to.

Well, I feel that a thread titled 'Why are the Dallas Cowboys so hated' wouldn't be complete without a comment from an Eagles fan

Of course there are a lot of reasons to hate the Cowboys, and the America's Team and the 'hole in its roof so God can watch His favorite team play' stuff has a part in all that, but it can't be denied that the Cowboy fans have a point when they say that jealousy of their success has a part to play too.

This is certainly the situation in the case of the Eagles. During a period starting in 1967, Dallas won 21 of 23 games against Philadelphia. The Cowboys also went to five Superbowls in 70s, winning two of them. Meanwhile, between 1962 and 1975, the Eagles only posted a single season with a winning record.

This antithesis caused jealousy to ferment in Philadelphia and, with no prospect of a playoff run for the Eagles, the team, fans and city turned their energy towards hating the Cowboys.

From there, as they say, the rest is history And Philly have given the Cowboys plenty to hate about the Eagles too!

In 1980 the Eagles beat Dallas in the NFC Championship game to go to their very first Superbowl.

In 1987, the Cowboy scabs crossed the picket line and played against the Eagles' set of replacement players. The Cowboys put Tony Dorsett in the game to give the amateurs an embarrassing drubbing. But two weeks later, with the strike now over, the Eagles took their revenge. The Eagles led by 10 points at the end of the game, but Buddy Ryan told Radall Cunningham to instead fake a kneel down and throw a deep pass. The pass interference call led to a humiliating TD on the final play.

In the 1989, the Eagles took a 27-0 victory over the Cowboys in the infamous 'Bounty Bowl'. The game was so-called because Jimmy Johnson accused Buddy Ryan of offering bonuses to any Eagles player that managed to knock out the Cowboys' QB Troy Aikman or Kicker Luis Zendejas.

The Cowboys are a team that Eagles fans just love to hate. I for one am very glad that the Eagles-Cowboys games are scheduled for week 8 and week 16, so we shouldn't be missing them. Wouldn't want to miss a chance to see us give Dallas a hammering

I have no problem with Eagles fans hating us. What do they not hate Division rivals and long may it last. This thread was created to find out why they are hated by all other teams and fans outside our division. Little reason other than jealousy, surely. If that is so, the problem is not with the cowboys but the people that hate them.

Hey guys, I'm still deciding which team to follow in the NFL

I have narrowed my search down to Lions, Cowboys and Ravens

I was just wondering if anyone could give me some reasons to believe in the Cowboys

I don't just mean on the field... But are there anyone who has seen a game? What was it like? What about the fans on here, is there anything to become involved in?

Cheers for any replies

But why do so many teams hate Cowboys fans?

Bandwagon - a see the crowd was about 6,000 in 1st season then grew, but this cant be the reason .
[/QUOTE]

My take on it is this:

One of the key reasons is that in the US at least, Cowboys fans can be found in nearly every city of the US in big numbers. Especially in the cities/states that don't have their own teams... From that point of view, they are the ManU equivalent in the NFL. Ever been to Old Trafford and see the "Somerset Reds" type banners? There's loads of those at Cowboys Stadium.

Another criticism, particularly when I read the UK forums is that they appear on tv a disproportionate amount of time. They routinely play games against the big television Market teams (read NFC East), so regularly feature on the prime time games. I guess it makes sense - TV companies want to feature the teams that will attract the biggest audiences so they can charge more for adverts etc.

Don't forget that Dallas are one of only two teams that play every year on Thanksgiving day, when more people watch football in the US than any other time of the year, excluding the Superbowl.

Additionally, they tend to play their home games at the late afternoon slot - 4:15 in the US/ 9ish in the UK so they tend to play at the same time as the West Coast teams (remembering that Dallas play in the NFC East, whilst being south/centrally based). As the Cowboys' rivals usually play earlier on, the Cowboys seem to have the spotlight all to themselves.

Like I say, that's my take on it. Of course there's the America's team bit and the historical success of the team over the years but I do think that there's more resentment than that...

From my point if view when I picked the Cowboys as an impressionable 6 year old whose old man introduced him to the sport, the logo and team colours were the reason for following the team. In the mid eighties they weren't a successful team after all! I certainly didn't complain as the dynasty period of the early/mid 90's kept my interest in the sport a great deal!

I am sure people who hate the Cowboys have better reasons for their hate than your psycho babble against the Packers.

TBH you are not good enough to warrant the hate at the moment.

And why the hell do you think that? I have just as good reasons as anyone to hate the packers like the people who hate the cowboys. I think you cannot stand the idea of someone hating on your team. Just live with it. I do on my side. Now go back to your own teams forum and babble on.

I dont mind at all actually shows we are a threat..........look at the Bills no one hates them and everyone wouldnt mind if they did well for once, and that is sad.

Your reasons are as valid as your reasons for hating Romo.........and he will put a sock in your mouth this season when you make the playoffs.

It does not matter how good or bad your lot is. I hate the stink pack more today than the day before. It is similar to the hatred the cowboys get from fans of the 31 other teams regardless of how crap they may be. And Romo is a life long Packers fan. Absolute scumbag.
