Love this game, let me have a think and give it a proper go...I think the results will tell you how far away we are from being contenders, year in and year out

Cut

Jamaal Anderson – DE is number one priority
Robert Geathers – see above, not getting it done
Wallace Gilberry – see above, just a body
Manny Lawson – ended last year well, isn’t even being used this year
Rey Maualuga – what a disappointment, can’t cover or run the defense
Rodderick Muckelroy – injury prone and not a game changer
Domata Peko – won’t go but too one dimensional
Jason Allen – needs to prove he’s fit, seem impossible
Nate Clements – hate watching this guy on Sundays. So stiff.
Tony Dye – who?
Chris Crocker – the fact he came back tells you all you need to know about him and us
Taylor Mays – just can’t cover and help out our LBs
Jeromy Miles – possible keep for ST but nay a starter at Safety
Vincent Rey – Special teams again, can be upgraded
Brian Leonard – love this guy but whole running back group needs upgrading. Focus has to be a 3rd down back
Cedric Peerman – see above but love Ced on ST and as a person.
Bernard Scott – Flashes, if he was special he’d have started. Injury was a shame
Chris Pressley – such an average full back and no physical skill set
Armon Binns – his early season flashes were a flash in the plan
Bruce Gradkowski – need someone to push Dalton
Taveon Rogers – cut for a reason
Brandon Tate – cut by NE for a reason
Ryan Whalen – moves the chains but Hawk is the real deal
Richard Quinn – we signed him and hes not played, don’t get the move.
Jeff Faine – hate watching this guy play
Trevor Robinson – not powerful enough for AFC North
Mike Nugent – rookie kickers seem all the rage

Keep

Carlos Dunlap – will be such much better opposite another pass rusher
Michael Johnson –needs to rotation back
Geno Atkins – ALL PRO
Pat Sims – If fit can help
Devon Still – has flashed and could be a special player, could be a future leader
Brandon Thompson – will be run downs specialist. We passed on Chandler Jones for Zeits and this guy
Vontaze Burfict – next year’s middle line backer.
Thomas Howard – will take over from Vontaze when he’s fit
Emmanuel Lamur – on the bubble but liked what he flashed yesterday
Dan Skuta – special teams and back up line backer, guys like him are valuable
Brandon Ghee – gutted this guy was injured
Leon Hall – reliable number 2 corner
Adam Jones – has been good but only played 3 snaps yesterday, coaches’ dog house?
Dre Kirkpatrick – please sort your knees out Dre, worried about this guy long term
Terence Newman – keep for depth
Shaun Prater – have to see what this guy has
George Iloka – see above comment
Reggie Nelson – has done well in run game, would benefit from ball hawk next to him
Robert Sands – got to see what he can do
Andy Dalton – still has a few years before he should be under pressure, needs weapons around him
BenJarvus Green-Ellis – situational number 2 back
A.J. Green - duh
Andrew Hawkins – jack of all trades
Marvin Jones – possible number 2, likely number 4 or 5 receiver but has skills
Mohamed Sanu – jack of all trades 2, more wildcat needed this year
Orson Charles – love this guy’s potential
Jermaine Gresham – due a breakout year
Kyle Cook – missed this guy so bad, Dalrs trusts him big time
Clint Boling – done a good job, deserves a chance
Kevin Zeitler – potential all pro
Anthony Collins – very good back up
Dennis Roland – huge guy, no doubt the RT when we don’t resign Smith as that’s the way we roll
Andre Smith – have to resign him, does struggle but better than half the leagues Right tackles, easily
Andrew Whitworth – still a key piece, people who complain about him are stupid
Travelle Wharton – gutted he missed the year
Kevin Huber – he’s serviceable; there aren’t many Sean Lee’s!
Clark Harris – still no botched snaps

Leonard and Peerman would stay for me - we under-use Leonard and Peerman is very sharp on ST. I'd be looking for 2 new RB's but those two can pack out the roster. I probably keep BJGE as you do.

I'm also ok with Peko staying, those space eaters aren't that easy to find and I think even though we don't see it, he does free up space for Atkins. I'm very impressed with Still, he's a physical monster, but those three would be a very good rotation.

Andre Smith. I know he got a bit embarrased on Sunday but Miller does that to people. I think he leaves though, can't see Brown re-doing that bumper contract he got and someone will pay good money for a good RT.

The LB's are all shoddy. Of the starter-types I think Burfict is awesome, but only Thomas is worth keeping. Skuta is useful and maybe Lemur comes through ok, but even so they have to strengthen this bunch.

In the Draft (we won't do anything in FA) I'm saying we need 2 RB's (it depresses me seeing teams with 3 quality RB's when we can't even muster 1), 1 LB and at least one S - all have to start from Day 1. We might also need an RT with Smith and his contract.

When you don't pay much in FA and have only 8 (7+1?) draft picks we just can't make all the changes we'd like to.

If Roland was our starting RT next year, Brown and Lewis would be run out of town.

Drop (cut/lose in free agency):
Anderson
Lawson
Maualuga
Muckelroy
Allen
Dye
Crocker
Mays
Miles
Rey
Scott
Pressley
Binns
Rodgers
Quinn
Faine
Robinson
Sims
Lamur
Jones
Roland

Keep:
Geathers
Gilberry
Peko
Clements
Leonard
Peerman
Gradkowski
Tate
Whalen
Nugent
Dunlap
Johnson
Atkins
Still
Thompson
Burfict
Howard
Skuta

Nelson
Sands
Dalton
Green-Ellis
Green
Hawkins
Jones
Sanu
Charles
Gresham
Cook
Boling
Zeitler
Collins
Smith
Whitworth
Huber
Wharton
Harris

I'd like to see the depth chart looking a little like this:

QB: Dalton, Gradkowski, NEW PLAYER
RB: NEW PLAYER, Green-Ellis, Leonard, Peerman
FB: NEW PLAYER
WR: Green, Jones, Hawkins, Sanu, Whalen, Tate
TE: Gresham, Charles, NEW PLAYER
LT: Whitworth, Collins
LG: Wharton, Boling
C: Cook, NEW PLAYER
RG: Zeitler, Boling, NEW PLAYER
RT: Smith, Collins, NEW PLAYER
DE: Dunlap, Johnson Geathers, Gilberry
DT: Atkins, Peko, Still, Thompson
WLB: Howard, NEW PLAYER
MLB: Burfict, Skuta
SLB: NEW PLAYER, Skuta
CB: Hall, Kirkpatrick, Newman, NEW PLAYER, Ghee, Prater
FS: Nelson, Iloka, Sands
SS: NEW PLAYER, Clements

K: Mike Nugent
P: Kevin Huber
LS: Harris

Just a rough outline, and we could certainly add to the defensive line (mostly at end if better options open up behind Johnson and Geathers) but running back and safety have to be the biggest focus assuming those players remain with the Bengals.

DE is our biggest need. Gilberry and Geathers?! Next biggest needs are DBs and LBs. This defense needs a serious overhaul of talent. With Dalton as QB (and I love him) the D needs to be strength of our team. Running back is a huge need too as youve rightly pointed out which means we need to massage the picks we have to get more.

I'd like to pick up a D-End, but with the good play of Johnson so far this season and the talent we know that Dunlap has I'd be happy to tide over for a year and then go after one once we've solved our needs elsewhere. Geather and Gilberry can do a decent job, they're nothing to write home about I agree and if we picked one up I'd be pleased. With the interior pressure we can generate with Atkins I think we can stick with what we have so far and fill up the need at safety, backer and running back, then see what we can do.

I admit I've kept far too many players and there's no chance we have those 43 on the roster next year.

We'll go DE in round 1 of the draft...mark it down.

Not enough talent at LB in the first round. No running-back worth of a first round pick. Lewis has proven he goes with the best player available pick and there's a wealth of quality DEs in this draft class. If teams reach on QBs like they seem to be doing every year then we might have a Damontre Moore/Kiki Mingo fall on our laps, we wont pass that up.

Lewis doesn't always go BPA- he's telegraphed quite a few picks a long time before making them- the world and his wife knew we were picking Gresham, we all knew we were picking Green and Dalton.

Last year we all expected a corner, mostly Kirkpatrick.
