Default Jets reportedly to PAY Darelle Revis

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...lion-to-revis/

The contract would approach $100 million dollars making Revis the second highest paid corner in the league behind Aso in Oakland.

If the Jets agree to this then they have taken their first step in going back to being a last place team.... If the cap comes back, which is likely, they will be screwed, especially with also having anothe CB who is a 1st round pick, and they won't be able to keep the players who have got them to being a good team again.

Words can't describe how crap PFT is.This is all rumours at the moment, just like the supposed $20 million per season that Revis was asking for but PFT will takes these reports, state them as fact and then add total speculation such as "Ryan will chase Tannenbaum out of town".

Florio is a joke.

It would essentially amount to a 9-year, $100 million contract. But that means nothing. You need to know the specifics of the signing bonus and year-by-year salaries.

Contracts are notoriously structured with big payments in the final year that will never be collected. Either the player will have left the team (Revis will be in his 12th year by that time) or he'll have signed a new extension which will pay him some guaranteed money but reduce his overall salary.

They do that because it allows his ego to say "I'm getting a $100 million contract" and usually to be able to say they are the highest paid player at their position. Aso has just been horribly overpaid so no-one is going to get close to his money.

As others have said this looks like it is going to bite the Jets in the backside once the CBA comes round as there is no way that Revis is going to look to re-negotiate. I do think that he does deserve it seeing as he and Aso are by far the two best CB's in the league but it depends on how it is structured and if the Jets have thought about the cap in all coming back next season.

I'm not sure how much it would bite them. It depends on how it's structured. Perhaps most of the money will be paid upfront in 2010 thereby avoiding it going on the salary cap. But equally if it's all back-loaded to the last seasons he'll be early 30s and struggling.

But ultimately he's one of the best corners in the league and as long as they don't overpay him like Aso did, they'll just be paying market rate for him. He'll be getting Champ Bailey money.

The Raiders should be stopped from handing out ludicrous contracts, it hurts every other team as much as them.
