BALTIMORE -- First-round wide receiver Mark Clayton, the former Oklahoma standout expected to add a big-play dimension to a Baltimore Ravens passing attack that ranked No. 31 in 2004, has reached agreement on a five-year contract.

The deal, which will be finalized on Saturday, is worth $8.2 million and it includes $5.7 million in guarantees.

The 22nd player chosen overall, Clayton had been criticized by Ravens coach Brian Billick each of the last two days for his failure to strike a deal. Billick felt that since the No. 21 and No. 23 choices in the first round had reached agreements, and Clayton was thus technically "slotted," he should have been in camp.

It is not likely that Clayton, who missed a full week of workouts, will participate in the Saturday scrimmage here with the Washington Redskins.

One of the premier playmakers in the college ranks over the last two seasons, Clayton, 23, holds virtually every Oklahoma career receiving record. In 52 appearances, with 36 starts, Clayton caught 221 passes for 3,241 yards and 31 touchdowns. His best season came in 2002, when he had 83 receptions for 1,425 yards and 15 scores. His numbers were down some in 2004, because the Sooners ran more and, in the passing game, spread the ball around effectively to four standout receivers.

Not thought to have great speed, Clayton surprised scouts by running in the low 4.4s at the predraft combine, then followed up with superb private workouts. He is a superb all-around athlete, a great leaper, and a receiver with a big-play mentality.

The additions of Clayton and former Tennessee wide receiver Derrick Mason, who signed with the Ravens after his release by the Titans, should provide third-year quarterback Kyle Boller with more inviting targets than he has had in the past.

Clayton was twice an all-Big 12 selection and consensus All-American.

At last, I was starting to wonder if he would ever sign! This can only mean good things and hopefully help boller out now he has his two, probable, starting WR's. ;D ;D

Ravens destroy the Redskins on both sides of the ball, wright had a TD pass, Boller didnt turn the ball over nd moved the ravens into scoring range, Deion had 2 sacks, lewis had a sack as did suggs, Ray also picked off Ramsey in the 7 on 7 scrimage drills!!!
