It was just 'there' for lack of a better word.

Sunday nights on channel four when I was a little lad, and it was sport so I watched it. I took pity on a 1-15 bunch of losers called the Dallas Cowboys and it went from there.

[/quote]Heh, I know that feeling, except the "it went from there" bit.

Yep watching the game on channel 4 when I was a youngster also got me hooked! NFL was much more exciting than having to watch the antiques roadshow or last of the summer wine!

The other thing I guess that got me watching it at an early age was collecting mini American Football helmets you used to get with bubble gum in the 80s. They were like collecting football stickers at my school. 8)

This is basically the game that got me hooked:

September 21 1986
Miami suffers a heart-breaking 51-45 overtime loss to the N.Y Jets in the Meadowlands as Dan Marino reaches 1,500 career attempts to qualify as the NFL's top-ranked passer of all-time. Marino finishes the afternoon 30 of 50 for 448 yards and six TDs. The six TDs are a personal high for Marino and tie the team record held by Bob Griese. Mark Duper (154) and Mark Clayton (174) each have over 100 yards receiving in the game. Standout LB Hugh Green suffers a knee injury which sidelines him for the season.

Then on 19 October I first got to see the Vikes play (I had already chosen them as my team)...vs Chicago (at that time 6-0 and world champs)...and we murdered them...that secured my affection for the Vikes...and then 2 weeks later saw Tommy Kramer throw for 490 yards vs the Skins in a 44-38 OT heartbreaking loss....and they have been cursed ever since ;D

Yep they were awesome. I think I managed to collect 16 out of 28 helmets. I cant remember what the prized helmet was at my school - Washington Redskins I think....

i think it was any helmet that wasnt either red, gold or white or silver that was sort after..ie Steelers, Skins, Vikes...

The Browns one was crap..and the Benglas one was disspointing.
