Default Why did you choose the 49ers as your team?

I chose the 49ers as my team because they were the first team to win the superbowl (Superbowl 29 vs Chargers) after I was born, and they were also the first team that I used on Madden NFL 06

Why did you choose them?

Ash

I first got into the game during the old C4 coverage of the 1984 season,.... As I'm sure you know the 'Niners went 15-1, and won the Superbowl that season,.... I was 9 years old at the time and the 'Niners won a lot, and as a consequence were on TV a lot, (seemed like that anyway),.... As kids do, I was drawn to the successful team,.... blatant bandwagoning,..,.....

I was basically born a Niner fan being from San Francisco. My dad always had football on tv. We'd go to church every Sunday and by the time we got home, we were just in time for the Niner games at 1pm.

I'm an 80s bandwagonner by a roundabout way - in about 1990 my Dad had a business trip to Alabama, and brought football shirts back for both me and my brother. I got a #16 Montana one, and he got a #13 Marino. Fast forward many years to about 2007 and I actually get interested in the NFL and ned a team, so I decide to go back to that jersey and pick the 9ers... Only to discover that they were utterly appalling at the time...

I'm a couple of years younger than you, but pretty much the same.

Fair play mate,..,....... Nothing wrong with bandwagoning to pick a team IMHO,.... As long as, like us, you stay on the bandwagon when times are not so good,.....

I was sat in a Chemistry class in January 1985 and the two guys next to me were talking about Superbowl XIX, which had been played the previous night. I had no interest in American football at that point, but thought that joining in the conversation was much better than listening to the teacher rattle on, so I asked them some questions about the game and the sport in general. They told me that the highlights were on Channel 4 that night if I wanted to see it, so I duely tuned in and was immediately hooked. As the Niners won, I decided they would be my team and have supported the Red & Gold through the various highs and lows ever since.
