There's a tricky pit at Watkins Glen, as Newgarden and Kanaan found out the hard way. Both clobbered the wall on the track side whilst exiting on cold tyres. Newgarden was then shunted up the back by Bourdais. Cue the application of lots of sticky patches to Newgarden's car as well as new front and back wings. Both he and Bourdais were still running at the end but they finished 18th and 17th respectively. Kanaan dropped out.

Alexander Rossi won, Dixon was 2nd and he takes a fragile lead to the final race of the season in a fortnight.

You might know it: the first rain for 3½ months for the San Marino MotoGP event. Riders were going off the track in all sorts of ways at all sorts of places to make this an extraordinary day. But it gave the cream a chance to rise to the top; Fenati and Mir in Moto3, and Marc Marquez and Dovizioso in MotoGP. Aegerter scored a rare win in Moto2 with Luthi consolidating his position in the championship behind him.

My cousin and other relatives from Australia are over watching it. Well there flight was delayed on friday going into Amsterdam dues to weather, then had to flight out on Saturday missed all the qualifying etc. Then today a wash, bad luck for them, genuinely feel sorry for them. Two are back at the hotel and are drowned rats.

Max's mood is unlikely to be lifted by the news that Renault will be switching their engines to McLaren from the end of 2018, forcing the Red Bulls to use Honda engines from 2019...

But is that likely to move McLaren up the pecking order that much? I have a suspicion that Alonso chose to re-sign for them pretty much in the spirit of take the $23 million and run . . .

no way F1 risks losing Red Bull by forcing them to use Honda unless they get there act together next year when they supply the junior team.think Red Bull need to be competitive for the good of the sport but also will be good to see McLaren atleast with a better package.

Vettel looks to have stuffed both his own chances in the drivers championship and his team in the constructors with that one.

Some days, it's better to start 5th and let the nutters go crazy in their own space.
Great job by Weather Control -- their experiment in Singapore needs to be tried a lot more often.
Win No. 60 for Louie Samilton! Take 'em when you can get 'em.
