Default Jaguars cut David Garrard

What are your thought on David Garrard being cut? the jags now have roughly 37m of free cap space. Are there any move you feel they should or will make?

MY thoughts are there goes any chance of any form of a season, it says on NFL.com that McCown will start, but that seems pointless if we have Gabbert so might as well start him.

Again my thoughts are that its a bloody stupid move

from what i've seen of gabbert he hasn't quite seemed ready and with the jags schedule being quite tough would they really want to throw him straight into that?

Exactly. Throwing Gabbert in from the start isn't a sane proposition, especially after the lockout. He may well end up starting later in the year, but they clearly don't want to throw him to the lions before he's ready.

As for the cut, it looks like we've got a virtual repeat of the Leftwich/Garrard mess. Incumbent starter shows no sign of being up to starting quality, and backup shows steady improvement. You hope through the preseason your starter's going to shake off the rust, but when they don't, you have to cut them loose. Especially when not doing so is going to cost you $6m.

This time the decision's even easier, because you're looking to ease Gabbert into the starting position within the year anyway.
