As for Stafford, I think he needs to keep a close eye on how Philip Rivers is perceived once he calls it a day. More than likely neither end up with a ring.

A good point earlier from FF though. It's looking like there will be a 'drought' of HoF worthy QB's at some point.
There was certainly a HOF drought of QBs after Elway (2004), Marino and Young (2005) and finally Aikman (2006). We had to wait another decade for a HOF QB which was Favre in 2016.

After Warner is inducted next month we'll have to wait for Peyton Manning in 2021. That shows there was a real dearth of great QBs drafted in the 1990s. Warner wasn't even drafted and made his breakthrough in 1999.

Agree with alot if that.

Gronk and Watt are interesting. You had Gronk as a LOCK, Watt as a YES. Both 28, similar number of games, both crazily dominant when healthy. What gives Gronk the edge? The 2 rings? His position? His QB/HC/Team? He's more likely to add another SB ring which would cement things.

Watt has 1 more All Pro appearance to his name I think (4). 3 time DPoTY too. The only pause for thought is his recent injury woes. I think he's closer to a LOCK than a YES, but that's splitting hairs. Tough to see the Texans landing him a SB ring given their current QB situation. If they did win a SB in the next 5 years or so I'm guessing Watt will have been a huge part of it and go down as one of the GOAT.

I'm guessing the future 'QB droughts' will open things up to clear 'backlogs' at other positions rather than give borderline QB's a chance of 'sneaking' in.

Philip Rivers - OTRT
Matt Ryan - OTRT
Donovan McNabb* - HOVG

RB:
Adrian Peterson - YES (Although do wonder if recent misdemeanours will count against him being a 1st ballot that he would have been previously)
Marshawn Lynch - YES
Frank Gore - MAYBE
Edgerrin James* - MAYBE
Steven Jackson - 2021 - HOVG

Brandon Marshall - MAYBE/HOVG
AJ Green. - OTRT

TE:
Tony Gonzalez - 2019 - LOCK
Jason Witten - YES
Antonio Gates - LOCK
Rob Gronkowski - YES/OTRT (Based on current performance, but if injury limits career there may be some debate)
Greg Olsen - MAYBE

The RB/WR log jam makes it incredibly hard to predict who will make it and who slides into the HOVG!
Good point about RB/WR, especially WR. I'd give Peterson the best chance of going in, almost a lock. Gore and James after that, then a bunch of HOVG.

Brandon Marshall is a NO for me, probably Welker too, the rest though all have a case.

There's certainly a backlog at Wide Receiver and especially with Defensive Backs in the next few years. Of the 10 returning finalists from the Class of 2017, you have two WRs (Bruce and TO) with Randy Moss a further addition in 2018, three Defensive Backs and four Offensive Linemen.

Ed Reed and Champ Bailey are eligible in 2019 with Polamalu a year later and Charles Woodson in 2021. Then there's guys like Steve Atwater and Darren Woodson knocking on the door but apparently ranked behind 2017 finalists Lynch, Dawkins and Law. Ronde Barber could easily get lost in the mix.

On the drought side I don't expect to see many RBs in the next 5-6 years, now that TD and Tomlinson are both in. Maybe Edge James and that's it. Everyone else seems to be cancelling each other out as HOVG types.

I think Grok is a "yes" but far from a lock. He doesn't make it if he retires today imo. Injuries are the determining factor for me.

Watt is Lock!!!! He's a 3 time DPOY. And 4 time first-team All Pro.Not to mention two time sack leader, ad people know how dominating he has been.

Issac Bruce has to be a "yes" for me too.

I'd agree on reflection Watt is a lock. His domination not only of his position but all defensive positions is clear
I'd state if Gronkowski was to retire he would get into Canton. Not as readily if he was to play a further 4-5 years at close to the current level but he has dominated a position in the same way as a Gale Sayers or a Dwight Stephenson as had on theirs in a similarly short timeframe. The fact he's part of a very successful organisation would only aid his cause

If one of the two players to win three defensive player of the year awards isn't a lock then no one should be.
