AFC North Dream Team:

Offence:

QB: Ben Roethlisberger (Steelers)
RB: Kareem Hunt (Browns)
WR: A.J Green (Bengals)
WR: JuJu Smith-Schuster (Steelers)
WR: Odell Beckham Jr. (Browns)
TE: David Njoku (Browns)
OT: Ronnie Stanley (Ravens)
OG: Joel Bitonio (Browns)
OC: Maurkice Pouncey (Steelers)
OG: Marshall Yanda (Ravens)
OT: Jonah Williams (Bengals)

Not a huge fan of Baker Mayfield so stuck with Big Ben, though if Baker has a good season I'm not sure if I'll be able to dig my heels in against him anymore. Went with pure talent in my Hunt selection. Unsavoury character, but he's just better than the other options when he's on the football field. You really can't go wrong with the WR's, I'd be shocked if anyone went for anything different here.

Defence:

DE: Cam Heyward (Steelers)
DE: Geno Atkins (Bengals)
NT: Michael Pierce (Ravens)

EDGE: Myles Garrett (Browns)
LB: Joe Schobert (Browns)
LB: Devin Bush (Steelers)
EDGE: TJ Watt (Steelers

CB: Marlon Humphrey (Ravens)
CB: Denzel Ward (Browns)
CB: Greedy Williams (Browns)
FS: Earl Thomas (Ravens)

Lots of talent to choose from at the line and edge positions and some very talented names left out. Not too enamoured by the options at LB or Safety, hence the rookie Bush and 3rd CB in Williams.

K: Justin Tucker (Ravens)
P: Britton Colquitt (Browns)

Head Coach: John Harbaugh (Ravens)
Uniform: Steelers
Stadium: M&T Bank Stadium (Ravens)

Think the special team and miscellaneous picks are fairly straightforward for this division, at least for neutrals.

I found it harder to separate a few more guys this time around.

Baker's star is on the rise which is one of the reasons for picking him. Mixon and Chubb are similar in some respects, but given Mixon has been in the league a year longer (and is slightly younger with less wear on the tyres) I gave him the nod. A mix of threats at receiver which kind of picked themselves. McDonald over Njoku, just have a perception that McDonald is a little more physical.

Plenty to choose from on the OL in the AFC North. Again, a perception that AV is more physical than Ronnie Stanley, and even though it's hard to leave out DeCastro it's even harder to leave out Yanda even if he's heading into the twilight of his career. A dearth of RT's really, so Jonah Williams gets the nod even though he's a rookie.

Cant see a way of building a better 4 man front than what I chose (no doubt others might see it differently). Another rookie in the mix with Devin Bush at LB. He's got the athleticism to have an impact as a rookie. Schobert seems a sound, blue collar type pick alongside him.

Was going to go with 3 safeties again here (with Damarious Randall) but I think it's a waste in terms of how votes will stack up. Humphrey and Jackson have the speed and size to handle the outside, which means Denzel Ward can bump inside. ET at FS, despite the injury, is a no brainer. Shawn Williams as a box safety gives it better balance than Jesse Bates.

Choice of two for HC basically. Both have drawbacks, but the recent issues off the field in Pittsburgh probably nudged me towards Harbaugh.

Mayfield over Big Ben is madness Richard! I know Baker had a half decent rookie year last year, but he still struggled anytime he faced a halfway decent defence (see chargers, steelers, texans games). A few wins over the Bengals (who had the worst D in living memory at one point last year) is nowhere near enough for him to be going ahead of Big Ben on any list imo

I can understand that viewpoint. BR coming off 5,100+ yards is an argument for starters.

Different analytics see them in different ways though, do there is an argument there. Even though he's a sophomore QB Mayfield seems to inspire, and Ben seems a little divisive at times (admittedly it's not all his own fault).

Mayfield is definitely arcing upwards though, and whilst BR isn't nessercarily trending down he is in the home run of his QB career. Then there is the nagging injuries that Ben always seems to be toughing his way through.

Maybe it's because Mayfield is the 'shiny new toy', but we'll see how youth v experience (success) plays out when it's all said done. I'm projecting Mayfield to take another step forward in 2019.

AFC North Dream Team

QB: Baker Mayfield (Cleveland)
RB: Joe Mixon (Cincinnati)
WR: JuJu Smith-Schuster (Pittsburgh)
WR: A.J. Green (Cincinnati)
WR: Odell Beckham Jr. (Cleveland)
TE: Nick Boyle (Baltimore)

LT: Alejandro Villanueva (Pittsburgh)
LG: Joel Bitonio (Cleveland)
C: Maurkice Pouncey (Pittsburgh)
RG: David DeCastro (Pittsburgh)
RT: Ronnie Stanley (Baltimore)

DE Myles Garrett (Cleveland)
DT: Geno Atkins (Cincinnati)
DT: Michael Pierce (Baltimore)
DE: Cameron Heyward (Pittsburgh)

OLB: T.J. Watt (Pittsburgh)
MLB: Joe Schobert (Cleveland)
OLB: Bud Dupree (Pittsburgh

CB: Denzel Ward (Cleveland)
CB: Joe Haden (Pittsburgh)
FS: Earl Thomas (Baltimore)
SS: Tony Jefferson (Baltimore

K: Justin Tucker (Baltimore)
P: Sam Koch (Baltimore)

Head Coach: John Harbaugh
Stadium: M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore)
Uniform: Baltimore Ravens

It was between Baker Mayfield and Ben Roethilisberger to lead my offense, Mayfield had a fantastic season and is on the up, where as I think Roethlisberger doesn’t seem to be performing as well in the latter years of his career. I think Mayfield will out perform Roethlisberger this season.

Four decent starting Running Backs in this league and then there is Kareem Hunt possibly playing in this division later in the season. Mark Ingram is the eldest and we’ve already seen his potential so I’ve counted him out. The Pittsburgh Offensive Line probably makes James Conner look better than he actually is, which leaves Nick Chubb and Joe Mixon, Chubb played better in 2018, but Joe Mixon has played great for two seasons behind one of the worst Offensive Lines, so he gets my pick.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, A.J. Green and Odell Beckham Jr. were obvious choices at Wide Receiver.

With the four Offensive weapons already selected, I felt that a little bit of further protection for Mayfield to let him get the ball down the field to my receivers was needed, Nick Boyle is one of the best blocking Tight Ends and fits in well here.

Ronnie Stanley was a good option at left tackle, but I like Alejandro Villanueva more, so I’ll move Ronnie Stanley over to Right Tackle. It was hard to split David DeCastro and Marshal Yanda, so i went with the younger option.

Total Baltimore Offensive Players: 2
Total Cincinnati Offensive Players: 2
Total Cleveland Offensive Players: 3
Total Pittsburgh Offensive Players: 4

Went with a four man Defensive Line, Myles Garrett is on course to become the best defensive end in the league and I’ve partnered him opposite Cameron Heyward. At Defensive Tackle I included Geno Atkins who has been one of the best in his position for a few years and rewarded Michael Pierce for his excellent 2018 season.

The Linebackers were easy to pick with Pittsburgh Outside Linebackers T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree with Joe Schobert who is becoming one of the best middle Linebackers in the league.

Denzel Ward and Joe Haden at Cornerback wasn’t an easy choice as they were up against Marlon Humphrey and veteran Jimmy Smith, but Earl Thomas and Tony Jefferson at safety were easy decisions.

Justin Tucker is the best kicker in the league, but the punter decision came down to who has been playing best recently.

Total Baltimore Defensive Players: 3
Total Cincinnati Defensive Players: 1
Total Cleveland Defensive Players: 3
Total Pittsburgh Defensive Players: 4

Total Baltimore Players: 7
Total Cincinnati Players: 3
Total Cleveland Players: 6
Total Pittsburgh Players: 8

I couldn’t really split John Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin as Head Coaches, they’re both similar in experience and honours. Baltimore and Pittsburgh’s stadiums again were hard to split. Purple is my favourite colour though, so the uniform decision was easy.

Just for fun, here’s a ‘B team’

QB: Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh)
RB: Nick Chubb (Cleveland)
RB: James Conner (Pittsburgh)
WR: Tyler Boyd (Cincinnati)
WR: Jarvis Landry (Cleveland)
TE: David Njoku (Cleveland)

LT: Cordy Glenn (Cincinnati)
LG: Ramon Foster (Pittsburgh)
C: JC Tretter (Cleveland)
RG: Marshal Yanda (Baltimore)
RT: Orlando Brown (Baltimore)

DE: Olivier Vernon (Cleveland)
DT: Sheldon Richardson (Cleveland)
DT: Stephon Tuitt (Pittsburgh)
DE: Carlos Dunlap (Cincinnati)

OLB: Matt Judon (Baltimore)
MLB: Patrick Onwuasor (Baltimore)
OLB: Preston Brown (Cincinnati)

CB: Marlon Humphrey (Baltimore)
CB: Jimmy Smith (Baltimore)
FS: Jessie Bates (Cincinnati)
SS: Shawn Williams (Cincinnati)

K: Chris Boswell (Pittsburgh)
P: Britton Colquitt (Cleveland)

Head Coach: Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh)
Stadium: Heinz Field (Pittsburgh)
Uniform: Pittsburgh Steelers

Total Baltimore players for A team and B team: 7 + 6 (13)
Total Cincinnati players for A team and B team: 3 + 6 (9)
Total Cleveland players for A team and B team: 6 + 7 (13)
Total Pittsburgh players for A team and B team: 8 + 5 (13)

Any concerns over Watt and Dupree as '4-3' LB's Martz?

Yeah, some... But they're still a lot better than the other linebackers I could pick and I wasn't including rookies. I only included both as I have Michael Pierce ahead of them in the trenches.

Martz - yeah, if you're excluding rookies then it gets tough at certain positions. That's why I've decided to include rookies tbh, there comes a point where inexperienced but talented rookies offer a better balance than veteran, even if the veterans have proven themselves more to us.

Crash - I'm guessing Ward and Jefferson got mixed up at CB/S?
