Homeowners who think they are Gods gift to DIY.

The chap who we bought this place off was allegedly an electrician. Don't believe it. Fuse box is ancient. Unfortunately he also thought he was a plumber. That is worse.

It's not just more interesting, we're a better class of human being!
I had rock / metal leanings pretty much since birth (one of my old man's favourite stories is how the only way I'd go to sleep was by being played Judas Priest & walked around the living room!) but what really sold it for me was when I was about 15 and started checking out pubs & clubs and noticed an odd phenomenon: You go to a rock / metal event & get knocked down in the crowd (most notably the pit, but not exclusivley) and suddenly five people they've never known rush to pull the "man down" to the relative saftey of their feet. Then, under protest, I tried a few mainstream pubs & clubs, and the aggression was astounding! You look at the wrong person & get a glass thrown at you!

Then there's the treatment of women at "cattle market" dives versus the number of times I've seen some moron push his luck trying it on with a lass in the pit, only to have a group of large gentlemen with long hair, tattoos, leather jackets & beards jump rather swiftly to her defence......

It is common courtesy. Fine if they are not staying but if you are staying why bring all your dirt all through the house?!

I don't think I've ever done it without being asked when staying with others but I don't think it's rude. Do others disagree?

Always ask whether they would like me to take them off personally. As has been said, just rude not to do so.

I always take mine off, whether asked to or not. As has been said, it's just common courtesy and it's not like there's any reason why you need to keep them on...

If your feet stink like mine you might prefer it if I left them on!

I usually wait until sitting down before taking them off.
