The Heat need is a better defender and rebounder. Bosh is basically being a slightly better Michael Beasley in Minnesota but with 10 million more $ committed to him. If they didn’t cart him off north for peanuts they could have got something special out of their 2# pick. Granted Beasley is a bit of an idiot but on paper he gave that team a more cap room to attract a more rounder team and good upside over what Bosh brings.

You've got to feel sorry for the Cavs. They bet the ranch that Lebron would stay and lost. They could have been more classy on his return though.

The next three games for Houston are all away (Spurs, Lakers, Jazz) before a couple of winnable home games versus the Grizzlies and the Timberwolves.

Wins over the Knicks, luckless Wolves and surprising Clippers were nice and the rally at Dallas was encouraging. We just can't put a full game together against the top teams however.

Outside of Chuck Hayes and Shane Battier the rockets can't really defend.

It's sucks to be a Cavs fan but they had a good run with Lebron. Right now they are in a good position to draft the next 1# prospect in the draft.

For Houston if it's any consolation if you were in the eastern conference you would likely be the 6# seed. They just need to blow up your team it's in purgatory neither good nor terrible your are the Dick Jauron Bills! Dump players Shane Battier is a great player to trade he is a good defender and a contender would love to have in their rotation. Just suck for a few years then build up like Oklahoma.

If I remember correctly Houston missed the play-offs with a 44-40 record and 9th seed in the West last season. The Easts 8th seeded team (Chicago Bulls) went .500 and made the play-offs. It's a strange system.

Building through the draft appears to be the best stratedgy. Battier is an underrated player and will have suitors.

The draft seems to be the only way for a smaller market team to attract a Superstar. After all Hakeem was a Number 1 pick. The Rockets are a team of role players and are stuck in mediocrity. It is a strange situation to be in.

The Cav's win their next game imo. Think it's against Detroit at home.

It's just unfortunate for them that there is not another Lebron type in college just now.

It's good for Cleveland. Cavs lose, Cavs get a top 3# pick and they get a jump start on shipping out all their veterans. Best way to forget Lebron is by starting over. Worst thing that could have happened would have been this team grabbing the 6/7/8# seed which would likely keep their current roster intact and think this team can achieve anything in the future other than one and done playoff runs. The Cavs future is bleak but even the Memphis Grizzlies are showing the worst run football teams can challenged if they build through youth and throw out any short term players.

Thumbs down

Jerry Solan is stepping down as the Utah Jazz coach after 23 seasons in charge. The Jazz have been playing as badly as any team not named Cleveland in recent weeks but for a coach of such vast experience to leave mid season is insulting to his legacy.

Great coach should have had a NBA title but ran into the greatest dynasty of modern US sport the late 90s Chicago Bulls. Utah spend money on free agents, get very good attendances, have a history of winning, are in a playoff spot and have a talented roster with an undebatable top 10 NBA player in D-Williams they will have no trouble finding a new head coach.

Bit gutted as I have a little soft spot for the Jazz,
Love the way the way they operate in such a small market
and the way they have built the current team up,
Energy Solutions will continue to be one of the toughest houses
in the NBA but Sloan will take some replacing.
