All kinds of speculation going around, from an imminent Belichick retirement announcement, to the whole thing being a pre-planned Deflategate revenge conspiracy.

The Colts are in a tough spot now, whether McDaniels would have been the right man or not, with the other leading candidates all signed elsewhere, and assistant coaches recruited to work under him having already signed up. They were 31st in the NFL.com end of season power rankings even before this...

Seems to be a few rumours/reports floating out there about Luck maybe needing more surgery, and his health still being up in the air for 2018 - another potential factor...

Whatever the reason, conspiracy or not, it's really poor on McDaniels part. I can't believe that the whole thing was pre planned by the Pats......well, there is a tiny part of me that wouldn't put it past them but nah.

McDaniels managed to lure the Cowboys DC heir apparent to the Colts too! So it's not just the Colts he's messed with (although Eberflus might have left anyway).

Anyway, had McDaniels not actually signed a contract yet? Why do all this announcing before he'd actually put pen to paper?!!

Perhaps it's a factor but I doubt it. Even if Luck is finished, McDaniels could get himself a new QB this year or next. It'd not like the Colts were primed for immediate success anyway.

As humiliating as it is, it's probably best to be left at the alter than to get married but discover your husband's an inhuman monster a few months down the line

Plus the Colts have a backup who McDaniels is familiar with...

Colts statement said he had agreed contract terms, I'm not sure if that means signature on the line or not. Presumably we wouldn't announce it otherwise.

The leaving his perspective coordinators in the dark, 3 of which had signed including Eberflus, is extraordinary. I can just about understand how he might be prepared to leave the Colts as an organisation hanging last minute, aside from common decency to agreements you haven't got anything personally on you staying true to your word, but letting your coordinators leave their original jobs, sign and have their families move across the country only for you to back-out....bit messed up.

Apart from messing with other people's careers and embarrassing the colts, who now have to give the job to someone who clearly is last choice on the coaching carousel and pretend to be amazed at his brilliance. McDaniels has surely damaged is reputation as a future top man yet again.

Who would hire someone so flaky as this clown. Not every coordinator is cut out to be a hc for sure.

I don't see BB walking with a lost superbowl as his final moment, if he'd won it would have been the perfect moment

Not sure if I should be happy the Colts got screwed over or sad that McDaniels isn't going to be their HC. Too busy laughing right now to decide.

I'm not sure McDaniels is even going to be in a good spot if he becomes the pats hc, Brady can't keep going for ever, then who carries everybody and makes the whole organisation look amazing... Kraft won't tolerance lack of success for long..then what for Josh? , the league won't touch him with barge pole. I guess he's stacking his chips!
