It's grown on me, but at first I thought there was way too much going on. The 'Michigan-esqe' stripes seem odd on a Bears helmet. Was that their original helmet design?

Apparently, its based upon their 1936 uniform

That explains that then. Fair enough, i'll let them off.

Wonder who had the stripes on the helmet/skull cap first? Michigan Wolverines or the Bears? I've seen images from 1940 of the Wolverines with their distinctive stripes.

*my mistake. Apparently the Michigan helmet is a 'winged' helmet, so I suppose it's slightly different.
