Default Faneca

Anyone know what is the point in getting rid of Brian Faneca despite us owing him $5.2 million in guaranteed money for 2010. It really doesn't make sence to me.

Alan Faneca, not Brian
Faneca was statistically poor last season and only got into the Pro-Bowl because of his previous achievements - like Favre the year before - hes still an adequate run blocker at this stage in his career but his pass blocking is pretty average.
Either Slauson or Ducasse are more than capable of filling the LG positon, especially since they'll be between D'Brick and Mangold - two of the best young lineman in the league.

Out of Jones/Feely/Faneca/Leon, Faneca is the player i'm least concerned about losing

Yeh exactly like JetsDom is saying, Faneca was actually the worst guard in football defending the QB during pass plays. Faneca gave up something like 8 sacks by his man last season on his own which is shocking but he got away with it due to his pro bowl status and top notch run blocking.

Faneca is a great run blocker but is a complete liability in pass protection and I think the jets front office just decided that:

A) Isn't performing to a high enough standard
B) Doesn't deserve the massive contract.

Also you have to remember that we need to sign all our young studs to massive contracts (Revis, Mangold, Ferguson, Harris) and therefore we need to clear out the contracts that aren't value for money. Which is also why the jets restructered Gholston's contract.

Add Edwards, Holmes and Cromartie to the list of players needing signed if we want to keep them and then you realise how much money we're going to need to spend to keep the core players together.

I agree with everything but not sure edwards at the mo needs signing.. He needs a good season this season first, his drops can be costly..
