Default Why did YOU become a Pats fan?

So, why did YOU become a Pats fan? We all have a story, I guess.

Me, well it's a long-ish story, but in short, I fell for the old Minuteman helmet.

Longer version is - I was just back from a 2 year (reward) posting in Cyprus '84 to '86 and got back to London in Feb '86 just after SB20 which I was totally oblivious to. I was shopping for some casual sports gear in a Hammersmith sports shop and saw a red sweatshirt with the helmet and 'New England Patriots' across it. I was torn - and this is where you'll hate me - as I was totally taken by the Helmet but had a real problem with the 'England' part of it all (being a proud Scot) so I had to convince myself that NEW England was different and better than the old one. Starting going to some Ravens, Olympians and Jets games (I was stationed in Hounslow) and then got right into the games on Ch4 back then (pre-Sky days).

So there you have it - never looked back since.

PS - We were in Boston last year for the Jets game and did the obligatory visit to The Hall and, wait for this - the wife has INSISTED that we go back again this year to see the 4 SB trophy display. Who am I to refuse her?!?!?

Default Just as a matter of interest

I thought I'd share this photo from a LONG TIME ago. I know it's the Liberty Bell but how could I not pass up this photo op. This is in Fort Lewis (WA state nr Seattle) back in March of 1987 when I was a mere puppy.

Stumbled across Superbowl 42 on BBC 2 in 2008, wanted the Giants to win because of my weakness to always cheer on the underdog whenever I'm a neutral fan! As the game went on found myself rooting for the Patriots, still not sure why, possibly because they were playing in blue (my favourite colour) or because I'd heard of Tom Brady, thanks to Family Guy. Anyway as we all know, the game played out the way it did and that was that, I was as far as I was concerned a Pats fan. Since then I've watched almost every game live, been to Foxboro 3 times and on Sunday, saw them lift the Lombardi for the first time, well for me anyway!!

Go Pats!

In 08 when I just started watching American football, was about 12 and simply being the very simple person I am because of having "England" in the team nam it felt relatable

Something like the previous 5 SBs were won by the team that took the lead....

We stopped that trend.

I fell for the Minuteman uniforms as well back in 1985, when I was 8 years old. My favourite player then was Tony Eason, SBXX was his nightmare game, which overshadowed how well he played between 1984-1986 (I've got 37 of those 1984-6 games on DVD). I now have a Tom Gibson game used Minuteman helmet I brought from a US auction site a couple of years back.
I'll always have a soft spot for those uniforms and teams -even the 1-15 1990 team!
