Sad to hear that Kauto Star has been put down after suffering a fractured pelvis. Epic battles with Denman (also won me a few quid which is very rare).

There's always been a special place in my heart for Kauto Star. I was at Kempton for each of his 5 victories in the King George VI and still remember vividly the turn of foot he demonstrated to win the 2009 renewal by 36 lengths. A magnificent horse.

So, who are people going for today? Always been a big Silviniaco Conti fan, so a pretty easy pick for me. Stamina is a potential issue over that distance, but think he has every chance of winning. Also having a sneaky side bet on Holywell...

Haven't looked yet, but drew Holywell in the work sweep yesterday, so that's out the window for you Wayne.

Last year I researched age, weight, country of origin, past performance, historical winners and jockeys...................I won nothing.

This year Antonio Conte was in the papers as the new Chelsea boss on the same day I looked at the horses names......................so I picked Silviniaco Conti. Put an each way bet on Unioniste too because the odds were in the 20's and the jockey had an obvious star on his top (was tempted by Holywell as his colours match the Cowboys and has several stars on it but the odds weren't as 'good'). Lets see how this strange approach works out.................
