Get it sorted Goodell.

I see no obstacles to this happening. Will get Kaepernick a gig. Maybe.

If we're talking about the wider issue of player development, the last I read was that the proposal the owners were most likely to agree with (in the short term) was a not-insignificant bump in Practice Squad size.

Personally, I think I'd prefer a new attempt at a development league.

One idea could be to have a league where NFL franchises 'sponsor' a new team based relatively closely (in US terms at least) to their franchise.

The new teams could also be encouraged to form links with local(ish) college teams to give the best undrafted prospects from the area roster spots (along with x number of spots reserved for 'senior' or 'veteran' free agents).

These new teams could play in the summer during the NFL's usual downtime.

This new league would be the place the NFL could send officials for training.

Through the links with their 'parent' teams, the new teams could have coaching prospects sent to them to hone their trade in a system more closely resembling NFL-style playbooks (same goes for the players).

As the 'parent' team or sponsor, come the end of the development season, there could be a waiver style system for allowing development players to be signed to the pre-season / practice squad, with the parent/sponsor team being the default #1 choice (if they want them, they can have them etc).

Thoughts?

Great idea in theory and I for one would be all for it.

But as someone else mentioned, without the quality of players, it will just mean a few more teams in the same boat as the Browns are this season.

While American football is expanding at grass roots level in this country we will never be at a point where we have a steady flow of British players in the NFL of course you get the odd player here and there , I cant see it being incorporated in Schools along with the other core sports which would start the drive for more young kids to take up the sport which even then doesn't guarantee more people making it.

The popularity is growing though as I live in a remote village in the countryside and 2 teams within a 20 mile radius have formed in the past 1-2 years, still don't fancy myself playing the game though with my fragile body !!!!

That's hilarious, did you come up with that yourself? You should get a job writing animated sitcoms for Fox or something.
