I like Vermealen as a player. Was hoping he'd fancy a move to Everton if he wasn't getting first team football, but if Utd are in for him then that's the end of that. Shame, could have replaced Distin if he ever retires.

Vermaelen needs games. A run in the first tem will iron out the mistakes of last season, but I'd think Arsene will want to bring in a CB before he lets him leave.

Yeah I'm not sure Vermaulen's done yet either. Although I'm astounded he's been at Arsenal for 5 years now, certainly doesn't feel that long at all.

This is it. Man Utd must be hard to turn down, but I would have thought he'd want to go somewhere he's seen as a first choice, somewhere he'll be allowed to play himself back into form. Not sure Man U can afford to let him do that.

He had a terrific first season or so at Arsenal, and then trailed off, partly with injuries and partly with poor form. He was a huge step down from Mertesacker and Koscielny when he played the last two years.

Vermaelen is a very good player. Form is temporary.

Can't say I rate vermaelen at all, think he's never been particularly good, he just scored a few goals that made him look better than he is

Certainly think Utd could do a lot lot better, although if they're swapping Cleverley for him I guess that's not bad business

Vermaelen has never developed the positional sense to play centre back like it was assumed he would. He's decent on the ball but not enough to compensate.

According to the Daily Mail:

'Manchester United will complete the £28.4million transfer of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera on Tuesday. '

Will wait for SkySports to report it before I believe it, but you'd have to think that 99% of this move was done under Moyes last year.
