i would say Yemen and that conflict has a strong possibility on the Iran backed side.

but also a terrorist group could of made it a target to cause chaos, attacking those tankers has one hell of a ripple effect.

of course there are other rabbit hole suggestions beyond that but best to stay clear of anything too crazy at this moment.

but even if it some rouge terrorists the odds are they receive there backing from Iran but even after the first round of attacks it was blamed on a state actor and no group has claimed responsibility which is how terrorist organisations get there publicity.

reports the UK may be sending Marines to the area is hopefully more about protection than any other actions.

and thats why after 9/11 the US went after the Saudis (maybe state actors would be far but there were strong links.)

well that would be a stupid plan if they claimed credit, if they want to cause chaos and tension and a war but then said, no it was us.

Iran is lashing out after Trump ripped up the nuclear agreement. It's trying to get some attention and concessions about the only way it knows how. Economic sanctions are seriously biting. Iran was making progress but Trump's actions have forced it into a corner. I expect increasing uranium enrichment will be next.
