Default Coaching Hires

Newly split from the Black Monday thread....

Looks like the Buccs have hit the Jackpot by bringing in Lovie Smith.

Houston to unveil Bill O'Brien today by the sounds of things too.

As has been mentioned by ESPN and others, Lovie is a Cover 2 guy - Revis is man corner, and the Buccs could save $16M by cutting him....

But Lovie is a big fan of Revis, and it's not every day you get the opportunity to utilise the best guy in his position in the league.

I'm intrigued to see what Lovie would do with him - though obviously it would be tempting to have that cap room back.

Incidentally Lovie isn't really a cover-2 guy nowadays, nobody is. Lovie used a lot of man coverage in Chicago.

If the space isn't needed, Revis stays and will blossom.

Nice appointment by the Bucs, I was of the thinking that the time was right when he left the Bears, time for a new start and all that.

Still a top coach though none the less, won 3 divsion titles and got us to the dance in 2007, plus the NFCCC in 2010.

One of those dates is wrong. Which one depends on whether you are going by season years or calendar years

For you and any other nitpicker...flip the 07 to 06 and take them as season years.

Texans: Bill O'Brien

Buccaneers: Lovie Smith

I like Tampa's move. A very good coach. As a Patriot fan I wish O'Brien all the best as he inherits a talented roster.
