Default Kaepernick gets 6yr/$110m extension

ESPN:

'Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers reached agreement on a six-year extension worth over $110 million that ties him to the team through 2020, sources told ESPN Insider Adam Schefter on Wednesday.'

$61 million guaranteed apparently.

Kaep led the team to two NFC title games, Alex Smith led them in 2011. Get it right ESPN.

QB contracts are going this way. And Alex Smith wants $125m or more? No chance.

Cam Newton will match or exceed Kap's deal. Wilson probably will too, then Luck will set the bar even higher.

*Rapoport now reporting it's worth up to $126m apparently. Not bad for a guy who has played only 1 full 16 game season.

So many CK doubters are laughing on media, fan websites.

But it's the sign of the times...

Everyone but a Newb knows the deal - it's about an 85% QB league...

"Have a nice D?" Good for you...see you picking first in the draft with your crummy QB.

If you don't have a great to good QB - you need an all-timer D.

They got him cheap for 4 years...I have no problem with this contract...it's about past years as well.

If he keeps improving - he will live up to it...but this is the perfect time to be a QB with potential in the NFL - FMV is through the roof.

If Goodell is hell bent on dissolving all the other aspects of the game - and other positions on the field.

We might need a salary cap on QBs alone.

It's like the new QB contracts are replacing the crazy rookie deals from the old CBA.

Doubters?

They must be from the teams where their QB didn't lead the team to a SB and a title game in a season and a half with limited experience and hardly any receivers for the most part. Christ, if that makes CK overrated then the QB playing for their teams should be sacked off.

Whatever. Trash talk is just that, trash.

Smith actually had more TD passes, less picks, more yards, a better pass completion percentage, more pass completions and a better QBR in 2013 than Kaep all whilst playing for an inferior team and playing one less game.

All I need to know from CK - is that in the dying minutes - against the best D at home (a D - Manning couldn't remotely handle) and against the most hostile environment - CK drove his team down for the winning score and was a hair's underthrown pass from creating his own "Drive" moments against - a LB core and secondary that is one of the best we've seen in awhile.

CK is the real deal. People love to rip him for losing again...hey, how did Manning do against that same D on a neutral field?

The cap will be $133m next season, up from $123m in 2013, and is expected to hit $150m by 2016.

We'll be seeing more of these contracts. If your QB is taking $20m from your $150m cap in 2 years, that still leaves more money than the entire cap from last season.
