Surely the fact that MNF will now be available to all on free-to-air TV, albeit by the red-button, is better for raising th profile of the game in the UK than having the game on ESPN, which is broadcasted to a very small number of households.
The BBC is stepping up it's NFL commitment with this move, for the third time in the last few years. First the showed the Super Bowl and International Series game, then weekly games on Radio 5 Sports Extra, and now MNF. Surely, then, the BBC has seen it as prudent to expand their NFL coverage, which can only be positive for those who hope for even more expansion in the future. To appease those who would usually record MNF, remember there's always the chance it will go up on iPlayer (though I wouldn't necessarily count on it). |

Both SNF and MNF used to be live on 5 a few years ago.

This an absolutely atrocious move unless there is the ability to record it. I can't see the average fan (or potential fan) staying up to watch on the red button. Also in this day and age HD is an absolute must for all sport. I refuse to subscribe to Premier Sports for the NHL until they go HD.

Great deal by NFLUK... ignore all the moaners, you wanted to increase the fan base and you will do just that by striking a deal with the BBC.

The red button has its own channel on freeview. Nearly everyone will be able to record it.
I want Colin Murray and Mike Carlson. That would be a good double act. |

Great that the bbc want to get involved. Dreadful the way they've done it. I try to stay up to watch every game live but I often have to record the end if i'm falling asleep. (Pesky employment.) There's plenty of space on the bbc's channels at this time of night. Is it definitely not in hd if it's red button? If so this is very poor.
Anybody know if espn will still air the countdown shows over here? They were soooo much better than any uk studio coverage. Even with all the adverts. |
