Default The Drew Brees contract situation

This has been a pretty painful off season for Saints fans, but it may well get worse.

Brees so far has not signed his franchise tag and the most pessimistic scenarios
is that he refuses to do so and sits out the season. Not an ideal situation.

The problem the front office has, is that to pay him what he wants would leave
little in the kitty to pay some of the other guys on the team who are due new
contracts in the next year or so, Jimmy Graham stands out as someone who can
expect big bucks in the not too distant future.

So what do you guys reckon? Should we go all in on Drew and surround him with
mediocre team mates , or hope that he signs a team friendly deal which enables us
to remain competitive?

I honestly don't think it worth the risk of hamstringing ourselves to a huge deal
with Brees , but don't want him to go either so hope he signs a deal lower than
what he reportedly wants.

I won't pretend for a minuet that I understand the financial workings of all this, and
I obviously acknowledge that without him we would be an average team at best ,
but could it possibly happen that we say "thankyou for the last 6 years and all the
best for the future" ?

Does he have any trade value without signing the tag ?

Again I don't want him to go but want to see what options we have if the worse
case scenario occurs.

The optomist in me hopes that , as he isn't under contract at the moment , he is using
this time out to devise cunning plans with Payton culminating in a glorious victory
next February...... a man can dream

Sorry about the rambling nature, tis my 1st thread!

I don't know thats a fair point. Drew Brees is good, but he is not going to last forever. I mean statistics are good for Brees, he holds the single-season record for most passing yards in a single season, with 5,476 yards passing during the 2011 season. I think Sean Canfield is an ace QB, that just needs time. Chase isn't to bad either.
