The Steelers lost to the Jags 30-9 in week 5.Since 2012 there have been 13 teams to face a team in the play-offs after losing to that team by 20+ points in the regular season.those teams went 1-12 in the post season rematch with only the 2014 Ravens avenging a 20+ point defeat(against the Steelers).

Only one team in the last 30 years has beaten Pittsburgh twice, in Pittsburgh, in the same season.

The 2007 Jaguars.

only 3 players have played in 10 or more conference championship games

Gene Upshaw played in 10,Oakland went 3-7.
George Blanda played in 11 and his teams went 3-8.
Tom Brady will play his 12th this week with the Patriots 7-4 in his first 11.

With the Vikings' loss, indoor teams are now 0-13 in Conference Championship games played outdoors.

Which is probably not as impressive as it first sounds, given you would obviously have to be on the road in that scenario and road teams' success in conference games is very low indeed. Particularly lately where in both conferences in the last 5 years road teams are 0-10.

Be interested to see what the vice versa record is. It was always the go to cliche about the advantages the home team had in a Dome (primarily the noise factor)against the road team

Exactly, they are the road team for a reason.

It''s not like the Vikings don't face trips to outdoor fields in the depth of winter either (Lambeau, Soldier Field - they played at Lambeau on Christmas Eve this year).

I was thinking about this the other day and what's the fewest outdoor games a team has ever played in a season. It will almost certainly be someone in the NFC, where assuming roofs are closed 6 currently play indoors, rising to 7 once the LA stadium is built.

Let's say you are Detroit. 8 home games indoors. 1 road game at Minnesota. Say you play the NFC South that year you'll get one of New Orleans or Atlanta away (you can't get both the way the pairings work, it is city alphabetical). Say you've got the AFC South too that year and get Houston and Indianapolis away (those do pair up). And let's say your positional away game is against either Dallas or Arizona that year. I make that 13 indoor games in a season. You'd just have to play outdoors in Green Bay, Chicago and either Tampa or Carolina. If you're lucky and get the Packers and the Bears early in the season you would also completely avoid needing to play in cold weather.

Conversely I wonder if anyone in the modern era has gone a whole season outdoors. This seems more likely. AFC East, North or West it would have to be since all 4 teams play outdoors (at least for now - Chargers and Raiders will be moving in). I guess if you are the Dolphins say and you get the AFC North, your road positional game is against the AFC West and you play the NFC East or West, with the Cowboys/Cardinals at home, then you would play your entire season outside.

Players to lead NFL in pass yards, like Tom Brady did this year, are 0-5 in Super Bowls. Previous 5 QBs combined to throw 6 pass TD and 11 INT in the Super Bowl that season...

also in the previous 7 Brady super bowl appearance's the Pats have not scored a 1st quarter points.

Default Gone w/ the Brees

Dolphin Wail .......

..............of a forlorn Fin-atic during Super bowl week (30+ years since Danny-Boy arrived in Palo Alto to face the Niners - BTW- a home game of a Super Bowl, if there ever was one , as was LA Rams-Pitt in Pasadena)

Anyway, Anorak-ia for today:

Every year from 1970 to 2003 (34 consecutive seasons) , the Dolphins had a winning record at some point during the 2nd half of the season -- For example : 5-4 after 9 weeks of a 14 game season.........

..and.....only 2 of those turned into losing seasons - a 6-8 and a 6-10. Translation: always in the playoff hunt til late....

Why Gone w/ the Brees ? Because the streak could have continued had we chosen Brees late in the 1st Round of the draft (Jay Fiedler was the underwhelming incumbent) --instead, defensive fetishist Coach Wannstedt opted for draft-bust DB Jamar Fletcher (on a team already blessed w/ DBs Sam Madison and Pat Surtain !). Brees went out to San Diego and the Fins went down the toilet shortly thereafter...........

...........Until , he who must not be named (Saban ?! Satan ?! what's the difference ?) doubled down on the mis-take -- opting for Dante (there's the Inferno thing again) Culpepper over Brees in Free Agency just a few years later

+++++Bonus Anorak-ia for having been so long winded +++
The Dolphins were 20-0 vs. Buffalo (home and away) and 10-0 at home vs. New England in the 1970s. Translation: They essentially began every 14 game season 3-0 (NFL went to 16 gm. seasons in 1978).

Dolphins are the only back-to-back Super Bowl winner to reach another SB on either side of their 2 victories , losing to Dallas the year before the perfect season.

See ? All the good stuff was so long ago........the 21st Century ain't been kind.......
